If I am lighting fireworks in my backyard tomorrow night (theoretically of course), that are legal in some parts of Orange County, CA, but not in my city, and a cop shows up, does anybody know what they do? Is it just a slap on the wrist and they will tell me to stop, or could I get in serious trouble? (All theoretical OF COURSE)

And just so you don't all think I'm irresponsible, I only bought fountain fireworks (aerials are too dangerous, and besides aren't allowed), I have a pretty big backyard, so I light them by the pool. Believe me, our house has almost gotten burned down before, so I also bought 2 fire extinguishers just in case.

It is a slap with a ticket. Since fires and residences have actually burned to the ground from fireworks, they are banned with good cause. |

No they take you in.....but I don't think jail time is needed. Just a fine. But you will ride in the cruiser (THEORETICALLY) |

If the cops do anything more then say "Please knock it off." I'd be surprised. They can issue you a citation and confiscate your fireworks.
Thanks to some serious fires around the country and some really dry weather, you may get the full service including the citation. |

Depending what state, county and town or city you live in it can go from a miner misdemeanor which would only be a find (usually $50 and up) to a "possession of a dangerous ordnance" charge for the big stuff. That's a felony. Just google your state, county and town fireworks laws and they should tell you. |

I didnt think they were legal anywhere in California.
But if they are where you live I am pretty sure you will get a citation. We had a neighbor in SanDiego who shot them off all the time and they would land in my back yard and on peoples houses. They never got caught or in trouble. And they are illegal in SanDiego. I wouldnt do it though........ consider this. California is desert. It is very dry there and what if you start a fire that gets out of control by accident. It becomes a GIANT wild fire. All it takes is a spark. THEN you would get way more than just a citation. Is it worth the risk? |

I think that it's a fine. I wouldn't even bother lighting them, because if they're not allowed, there's a reason behind it. |

Four options, one you will receive a citation and have your fireworks confiscated. Two, the officer will give you an opportunity to stop and put them away. Three, the officer will take your fireworks and leave you with a warning. Four, you can obey your local laws and go somewhere in which lighting them off is legal, there is after all a very good reason why they are not allowed in certain areas, its called fire. |

and i lit of fireworks that are ilegal in the whole state (MA) and a lot of other people do it to. One time I went to a park to light a few of and there was 2 seperate groups already doing it. Over here unless they get a complaint from a neighbor they dont realy care |

Just have fun and be safe!!! Sounds like you have all your bases covered. I think they confiscate your fireworks and give you a ticket. |

theoretically, they would show up and if no one is home when they do then it must of been the neighbor.....
also theoretically, give some out to some of the older (18-21) neighborhood kids and feel free to assume they will have to many calls to respond to yours.
its the 4th of july, their not really gonna care about a few fireworks being set off by a resaponsible adult.
p.s. if they dicede to come down hard then you might get a 200$ fine and have the rest confiscated.
but i suggest you set them off in a park where, 1. you can leave imediately afterwards. 2. there wont be any neighbors homes being put at risk. 3. there won't be any trees or other hazards.
honestly if people are setting them of in their backyards i can understand why they would be made illegal.............................. |
