I dont know if you are a fan of history, but google "Kristallnacht" or read a book called "Night of the long knives".
When Hitler assumed power in 1932 as Chancellor of Germany, he instituted one special night a couple of years later that he called Kristallnacht. Basically, it meant that if you were a Nazi party member and you had a grudge against anyone who was not a party member, you had a 24 hour amnesty to kill them.
By German records, 2500 people were summarily murdered and executed in that one night. By world news accounts, over 25,000 people were killed. Quite a difference in accounting, but personally, I would tend to believe the world news over Hitler's accountants.
Read your history and you will see exactly what really happened when murder was made legal for one full day.

We'd find out just how evil humanity really is; we'd be able to see how many people refrain from killing others based on morals, and how many of us just refrain because it's against the law (i.e. to protect ourselves.) If the former group was larger than the latter, yay, humanity is basically good. If not, well, we all knew we were screwed anyway. ;) |
