In SC the Highway Patrol investigates the accident. I know a guy who got t-boned by a USC PD officer who was responding to a call. My friend was in the middle of the intersection (he had the green) when he got hit. The officer had on his lights but no siren, and the officer ran the red. HP issued a ticket to the UPD officer, because our state law requires both lights and sirens on the officer's part.
So I would assume in your case the police officer should be cited just like any other driver who rear-ends another car. |

The policeman gets a ticket in our state where if you rear end someone, your at fault.
But if he was on a chase, well, it would all be swept aside. |

Well you wouldnt have to worry about calling the cops lol. You would just do everything you are supposed to and just skip calling the cops..and file an accident report..
It is possible but highly unlikey that would happen because police are pretty strict on themselves about driving. But of course most cops are jack-offs that think they are above the law....so no one knows... |

Law enforcement also is required to have insurance, just hope that you get rearended by an honest cop, I have heard of some that will find a reason for it to be your fault and site you!! |

The cop gets out and threatens you, says that he was on police business, drives off without giving you a badge number. If you try to take action, the court shoots you down before you can even get the first word out. Duh. We live in America. |

He'll want to know why you slammed on your brakes. Perhaps your were drunk or on drugs. Now you're busted. Look what you did to his police car! |

The cop gets out & trys to accuse you of causing the accident.
Good luck trying to collect from the police for any damages. |

then it's like a private citizen who rear ended your car. only you have to deal with the police dept. don't worry, if it's their fault, they will pay. they have insurance too. |

depends on the cop really...most will probably phone it in and take down your info. They have gov insurance, so it will work out for you. |

I swear I just love all the cop bashing answers people love to post! All law enforcement agencies have insurance for just such a thing and it is just like any other accident situation. Accident report gets filed, insurance claim in submitted and automobiles get repaired. As for a time frame on the repairs, that depends on where the car is repaired. Funny I came across this question because my husband's truck was parked and rear-ended by a police officer and the city paid for the repairs. |

You would stop your car (obviously) and the the police officer (should) immediately attend to your aid and make sure you aren't hurt, seeing as it his/her job is to "protect &serve". And if you are injured the officer will call for an ambulance or fire rescue vehicle. Now as far as the financial aspect of the situation, (as long as you and your vehicle are completely legal) the city, county, or state depending on the agency that owns the car that ran into you whether it be police, sheriff, or state police (highway patrol) would be completely liable for any damages or harm done to you or the vehicle you were operating. |

The cop says he was about to pull you over for no brake lights when you slammed on your brakes, then plants his personal drugs into your car and throws you in jail for D.U.I. And then the city fines you for their broken ploice car. But he possibly might rob you as well in the process depending on how hard up for crack he is. |

Jenn what city u in? My sister got rear ended by an officer at a red light. Two years later she still can't walk without assistance. She was working and now she can't but of course she can't get any kind of assistance from the city or state. Her husband had to pick up a third job which is still not making ends meet all the way but of course it doesn't matter that now he's not home to help with the kids and she can only do so much from her adjustable bed. It's not fair that if it was the other way around and she hit them this would all be settled right now. Of course when the other cars did come they were in her car looking for drugs and alcohol trying to pin something on her. She nor her husband drinks or do drugs. This is a messed up situation here in Texas. She was basically told you got hit by the wrong car because Texas has a cap on what they will give you. Needless to say she hasn't seen a penny yet. FEDEX or UPS would of been better for you to get hit by....wow. She was just picking her husband up from work she didn't want to get hit period. We think he was texting when this happened but of course we will never no. |
