You could be held in jail until the authorities identify you. Do you really want to do that? |

if a person is guilty then they are guilty
doesnt matter what their name is |

You can be held and charged with Obstruction of Justice for failing to give your name. In the meantime there are other ways to find out your identity such as a social security number and date of birth. Your best bet is to quit playing games that will cause you more trouble down the road and just give the officer your name when asked. |

Mad jack

you will be deported to a place thats not nice cos that is what they do to people who beat up people you horrid man |

trooper3316

You would probably be held in jail on the charge until they could confirm your identity through fingerprints or other means. |

sensible_man
If you were arrested, they can hold you until they have proof of your identity. That makes the choice up to you depending on how long you want to be in jail. |

chimp

if you have no name and no form of ID they will hang you as you are admitting you are no one.. so if they hang you then they hung no one |

You are classed as one dodgy geezer! |

not only will u be charged for assault but ull be charged for not co-operating and giving false identification....u just cant do that, it doesnt matter if you dont have bills in your name or anything like that...u have a ssn, u have finger prints, people know who u are and where u come from...if u didnt want to get arrested or get in trouble, y beat someone up and get caught?? |

The Boss

They can hold you until you identify yourself. Your finger printed and you are in the system.
Any future involvement you can be identified. |

If you could not be identified through fingerprints, you would be held as a John Doe, and tried as such. In the interim, your picture would be distributed nationwide, and run in the local news. It might even make the national news since it is such an unusual story. At that point, someone you know will recognize you and give your identity to the authorities.
If not identified and convicted, you would be sent to prison as John Doe, and would be assigned an inmate number. Once you reach prison, you will be required to provide a DNA sample. Your fingerprints and DNA sample would be on the NCIC and if you ever attempted to get any type of ID in the future, all id would have the arrest and conviction matched to it. |

Theyll give you a name - and youll stay in custody til the trial cos otherwise they wont be able to contact you. Most likely |

Well, said Alberto
You get banged up anyway; its not as if they could give you bail, is it ? |

pirate_princess

hopefully you'll get arrested for failing to co-operate! |

Register of births and deaths,
Voters checks
then if nothing else checking with family, neighbours etc.
If there is no reason to disbelieve the details you are giving then we just accept it. If we have a decent suspicion you are giving false details whilst being investigated for an indictable offence then you would be kept in custody |

Will smells

They'll jail you none the less simply as they'd make something up. You might get fitted up for crimes you'd never committed because you couldn't prove otherwise. |

Lisa T
Then you will be classed as a no-body, which is what it sounds like you are. If you are over 16 then you must have a national insurance number, so they would have sent it somewhere. But then if you have never worked then you wouldn't have had any reason to use your N.I. number. If you are proud to say that you don't live anywhere or have any ID then you must feel really good about yourself. |

Jason is right, plus you would never be offered any kind of a bail, and would never be released until you were tried, the court would be relentlessly hard on you, and you would probably be charged with failure to cooperate and conspiracy charges also. It would not be a good move. |

Charlie Fingers
You get held in jail indefinately until you provide a name that is verifiable.
After a while you will get tired and spill your guts.
We got one every so often that thought he could get released after 48 hours if he didn't give any info. After three days he sang like a bird (and cried like a baby.) |

Jason
You can be tried as "John Doe". This is not a new idea, nor is it a means of avoiding justice. |

El Scott
In North Carolina you would be booked as a John Doe and would sit in jail until you proved who you were.
They won't let you post bond because there would be the obvious problem of finding you if you did not come to court. |

Jackie Blue
But children are assigned a social security number when they are born now.
Well, just venturing a guess here. If you don't provide info, I guess you possibly will have a new home, and three meals a day, and a roommate named Shredder. |

the monk

most likely you would be held for perverting the course of justice, |
