Whatever happened to the commandment "Thou Shalt Not Kill(Murder)?Wars, Execution of criminals, guns in houses

to kill burlars who may only want to rob. How can America be considered a Christian country when they don't even make the effort to obey one of the simplest commandments?

murder is the ILLEGAL killing of a human being.

killing in war: legal
executing criminals: legal
defending one's property and family: legal

You must actually read the bible to be able to understand it. Not use talking points from dailycos or moveon....

The FBI estimates that firearms are used by citizens defensively about 400,000+ times per year, and in less than 6% of those instances is a shot even fired. I would have to assume that in the other 94% of those cases, violence was averted. And in some lesser percentage, perhaps even murder was averted.

Most gun owners own firearms as a hobby, and not because they are bloodthirsty hotheads as the media or the Dem's in Congress like to depict us. Guns are to gunowners as motorcycles are to bikers. It's really a fun hobby, and almost every person I know in this hobby is a laid-back tolerate individual. Kind of "do-your-own-thing" folks.

If the Dem's would leave gun owners alone, they might find a little more support for things they value such as gay marriage, public healthcare, and such...

The correct translation is, "Thou shalt not murder"

Murder implies that the victim did nothing to merit being killed.

Soldiers killing enemy soldiers in a war isn't murder.
Killing intruders in your house, whose motives and intentions you cannot know, is not murder.
Executing perpetrators of heinous crimes is not murder.

Claro?

That commandment refers to killing someone for personal gain , or for reasons other than self-defence , where there`s other options .

The bible ALLOWS for the execution of murderers by governments !

And exactly why is it that people shouldn`t have guns in their homes ? They have every right to kill someone that may kill them . If YOU don`t want a gun in YOUR home , fine , but don`t pretend to be the conscience of the nation ............

not everyone in this country is christian. others believe in in it only when it suits them. it's a messed up wolrd (depending how you look at it). most people cope just fine. it's just the radicals on each side of the fence that are having problems.

Your name here, cheap.

Why did you ask this 4 times already? You need to learn the difference between killing/murder and self defense.

America is not a Christian country. Our government does not endorse a religion, it cannot. I don't know why you need to debate religious doctrine here, there are better sections of Yahoo Answers to do that.

You are absolutely correct: America cannot be considered a Christian country.

Please stop thinking of it as one.

The Bible, the Koran, the Torah, and all the other religious texts are very fine examples to base a life on, and even to a good rulebook to form a society around. But the Bible is not our Constitution, and you should not compare the two documents.

First of all, America is not a Christian country. There is no official religion.

Second, even if Christianity were an official religion, there would still be arguments over whether the Old Testament was still to be followed or whether we were now bound only by the Two Great Commandments.

You are allowed to protect yourself, your family and any innocent bystander from bodily harm, however, I whole heartedly agree that the State should not be allowed to take a life - ever.

Killing is not breaking the commandment, murder is breaking the commandment. In fact the death penalty is required for certain offenses by the Bible. And there are many verses in the Bible were Joshua was commanded to wipe out whole cities, Jericho for one.

To kill in a justifiable war( one that protects the populace from a cruel dictator), to convict through the courts a person who has taken multiple lives & would do it again if released and in self defense(a person breaking into a home to harming another) is not breaking any commandments.
People would kill if all the guns were melted down today they would still have bombs, knives, clubs, rocks, and fists.
Sin is part of the life we live, while it rules our world, all the commandments will continue to be broken.
