it depends on the make /model of car and the different modifications that can be used to increase the acceleration and aerodynamics of a particular body style. Certain shapes have less drag , therefore can achieve higher speeds than less efficient shapes |

Depends on the car. Some chases are broken off because the suspected criminal is pulling away from the cops.

I think about 120 at best. |

The standard Police interceptor will go over 150mph. Some agencies have been known to use Corvett's confiscated by dealers. In that case over 200mph |

Most will top out at about 140 to 150 mph but they have radios and helicopters for the chase. |

It depends on a lot of things but I won't tell you those things. |

My crown vic has gone 125mph, at that point the wind resistance for everything on my car kicks in and you're not going any faster.
Still managed to catch the guy in front of me doing 95mph. |

The correct answer is 'as fast as one can safely travel to apprehend the suspect'... If at any time there is a danger to the public, the pursuit is to be immediately aborted...
As to the actual speed of the cars? Probably faster than one needs to...
The Mustangs are reported to reach about 150MPH but get real squirrely on wet roads... The typical cruisers can hit about 130MPH...
Google the specs of all the cars you see... ie 'Mustang', 'Crown Victoria', etc. You should get a pretty good idea of what the car is capable of from there.
A police car is much the same as any other car with very few modifications. They have an improved suspension, a heavy duty bumper, typically a larger alternator and bigger radiator and perhaps a 'performance chip' installed for quicker throttle response...
It's not the speed of the car, it's the special training and driving skills of the officer that allow them to catch the bad guys.... That, and the radio to call for backup...
In a dangerous situation, an officer will always call for help...
Hope this helps... Being a police officer is more than cool equipment... There's a lot of special training and hard work that go along with it! |

Well here in newfoundland it is agains the police of the police to pursue a vehicle over 160 km/h (don't know what it is in miles) The reason for this is Safety Reasons. They will get close enough to get a picture of the plate number and then back off.
According to school (RNC training acadamy) they will not pursue because it is more dangerous to have 2 vehicles doing 160+ instead of just one. So the person gets a nice ticket in the mail. Now in the event of a Robbery or something like that I'm not exaxctly sure of the Situtation we haven't covered that yet. |

Usually, just fast enough to watch the suspects car 10-50. |

well the Crown Victorias will go about 140 (120 from the factory though ) miles per hour, and the Chevrolet Impala's are right around the same. at least thats whats on the tac.
hope you dont plan to out run any of these, but if you do good luck to you. |

guess about 150 mph when going to the donut shop ... but 2 hours to the school where a madman is killing 32 kids ... you do the math ... |
