Whats your thoughts on all police officers in the UK carrying Taser ?

I'm all for it and I would gladly carry one.

Its also the thing I would go for over a 'proper' firearm as its the less lethal option. That said, if I was required to carry a firearm, I'd make damn sure I could hit what I was shooting at.

In this day and age I think the Police on the streets need more protection from the increasing dangers we face each day.

With an increasing number of weapons of all types on the streets, we need something that can stop someone in their tracks rather than a pepper spray that doesn't always work.

I have used pepper spray 3 times so far and it worked each time. I do however know of officers who have used it and it didn't work resulting in the officer and suspect being injured.

I have also seen someone who had previously been tazered being moved from their cell and they were clearly in fear of it being used again. If this fear is enough to stop another injury, to either the suspect, officer, or member of the public, then that's got to be a good thing.

I think it is a good idea becuase. we are living in a Country that is becoming out of control... but in saying that it is a quick fix soluiton, we need to come up with a more stuctured and stable solution for the future...

Tasers are controled and much better than police walking around with guns. Criminals need a short sharp shock anyway lol

if the police are well trained in their use, and you commit no crime - then you have nothing to fear. its the same as people who complain about cctv, if your not breaking the law, why worry?

in addition, if they are subjected to the same control as guns i.e. every use gets investigated by the IPCC., then it will be fine i think, and make real criminals more wary of the police.

I assume your question is in relation to non-firearms officers being equipped with Taser.

I have been carrying Taser for the last 2-3 years. I am yet to use it, however have seen it used by a colleague. In that particular instance we were up against a male with a baseball bat. The use of the Taser allowed us to stand off sufficiently, without putting any officer in danger of injury. The Taser did not cause any injury to the subject.

I believe that the biggest threat to officers comes from persons with edged weapons, such as knives. Arming these officers with Taser is a logical step in the right direction.

No i do not think that the Great British Bobby should carry an Electric Stun Gun, i say give them real guns, after all the law abiding citizen will not be armed by them will they, only the law breakers need to be worried. It's time the kid gloves were taken off to allow the police to fight fare.

I am a bit concerned about it. I have just read an article where Canadian Police used a Taser on a guy and set him on fire. They say he had something flamable in his pocket, could it have been a cigarette lighter, or something similar. This makes it very worrying.

They should all have to have firearms training first.

I don't approve, although I understand why some might. In the US, particularly in California, they are starting to be used routinely, particularly by female cops who are less confident in handling situations without them. The same reason, although will never be admitted to, will apply in this country.
