Weird. I hope I never bump into any jobwsorth police whilst I'm out with my dogs - I routinely collect and throw such offensive weaponry. Hell, my dogs pick them up and carry them, too. We'd all get a caution.

The law on offensive weapons states that if you have with you in a public place, without lawful authority of reasonable excuse, an article which is made intended or adapted to cause harm then you commit an offence.

A stick would fall under that definition if you intended to use it to cause harm to another person.

If you have received a caution then you would have admitted the offence. If you are disputing that or complaining about the repercussions then why admit it?

As for the conviction stoppoing you from getting another job, this is down to the relevant employer as to whether they would allow you to be employed by them. I know that certain offences will bar you from becoming a Police officer but I don't know if offensive weapon is one of them. The Police service to which you are applying will tell you.

I can actually understand why it stops you being a security guard - a stick could actually mean a lump of wood that could cause someone a lot of damage. But it should also stop you from being a copper too. I dont get the difference.

There is absolutely no way you would be accepted as a police officer in the UK with a caution for possession of an offensive weapon.
Also the SIA have their own rules and regs, you cannot compare the two.
Also you were in possession of a 'stick' whilst on duty as a security guard, therefore you are implying by carrying it, that you would use it.

you're mistake is that you accepted a caution,so you agreed that you had done wrong.
You could try making a statutory declaration before a judge that the punishment is unlawful at common law
It seems to be against article 20 of the Magna Carta 1215, which i shall cut and paste below.
20] A free man shall not be amerced for a trivial offence except in accordance with the degree of the offence, and for a grave offence he shall be amerced in accordance with its gravity, yet saving his way of living; and a merchant in the same way, saving his stock-in-trade; and a villein shall be amerced in the same way, saving his means of livelihood--if they have fallen into our mercy: and none of the aforesaid amercements shall be imposed except by the oath of good men of the neighbourhood.

So its unlawful to lose work over minor offences
