When can a cop legally administer a drug test? When would it be overstepping their rules to adminster one?

Im wondering if there are any grounds that an officer is unable to administer a drug test or if they can give you one if there is any reason to believe your on an illegal substance. My friend believes that a cop cant randomly request for you to take a drug test and I was wondering if this is true or false.

So can anyone answer this question with documentation or a source from a .gov or .org site?

The Police may request that you take a chemical analysis anytime they have a reasonable suspicion that you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

If you refuse to submit to these tests and the Officer has probable cause to believe you are under the influence then he may get a search warrant and then have a qualified person draw your blood for a chemical analysis. This answer mostly pertains to DWI arrests but if the person's impairment is evidence of some crime then the Officer may attempt to collect it.

a drug test ? how is a cop going to do that ? have you piss on the side of the road ? if he doesnt have a lab in his pocket it wont stand up

Demand it be done at a hospital by qualified people. Cops chase taillights. My dog chases taillights. Would you let my dog give you a drug test. If they don't want to do it at a hospital then the have no legal standing.
