A couple weeks ago. They parked on each end of the street. One was walking down the street and the other was walking up it. |

Not for months, probably because the Government are saving money and employing Police Community Support workers on the cheap, to walk around and pretend to be proper coppers. Who do they think they are kidding? |

I've never seen my next door neighbour walk down my street. That doesn't mean that he's not there. |

1954, A child about my age fell/ jumped from the bridge into the nearby river. A detective walked around the neighborhood asking if us kids playing knew him.
Up until the early 70's there were always foot officers in the nearby business areas but they would never walk down the residential streets unless summoned, no need. Very few mothers worked and there were always people around so there were few day time burglaries. Routine neighborhood patrol was not done. |

Well our local station has been closed, the next village up from mine has theirs still & our community police officers are based there. They do come down into our village, usually to move along the local vagrant. They aren't about at night though, when the our little "darling " street gangs are out & causing trouble.
I blame the parents ... it seems to be a case of out of sight, out of mind. My children have no wish to hang around on the streets, I've instilled a sense of self respect & respect for other people's lives & property.
If I can bring my two children up in that way, then other parents should be able to do they same & then there would be no need for Police officers to walk the streets. |

About 6 months ago when he walked past a car in our narrow High street that was causing chaos and ignored it. Four weeks before that the same PC was booking cars that stopped in a lay by where buses used to stop about 2 years ago but no longer use. |

I have lived here for 2 years and i have never seen a Police Officer on our street. It is a very quiet street and we rarely have any problems. |

Today, it was me!
No seriously, I have to admit that we're not able to do this sort of thing very often due to the large areas that we now have to cover, all the targets we have to meet and ticky boxes we have to fill in. We basically don't have much time to walk. I have answered a similar question before. I'm told that the government is looking to reduce bureaucracy in the Police but I've heard that many times before and nothing changes. It remains to be seen.
That said though, I as are many of my colleagues, am happy to go out walking when the opportunity arises and have previously done so many times.
A question for the asker though would be 'When did you last see a plain clothes officer walk or drive down your street?'
Just because we aren't wearing silly high glo coats and in marked Police cars, it doesn't mean we aren't there. What you also have to bear in mind is that we are patrolling the streets whilst you are sleeping. |

About a year ago when they did a search of some toe-rags house.
But when it comes to seeing a policeman on patrol anywhere at any time never mind my own street, years ago, and when it comes to seeing a policeman late at night on my way home from work at 10pm when a lot of the trouble kicks off,,, never. |

It was around the time i last saw a milk float go down our street.More to the point ,would you like to be the officer walking the beat who comes across the 40 or so drunken youths hanging around the corner of the local shops at 10pm on a friday night. |

The last time I ever saw a proper bobby on the beat was back in 1989 when I was 9 years old to be honest. I have troublesome neighbours so I often see the police go to attend to them but as for a police officer walking by, the nearest I have seen to that recently is 2 police community support officers walking by from time to time, unless like Ian says plain clothes officers are walking by and I am not noticing them. |

I don't notice them because i'm not running from them like you. If you don't do anything wrong you don't pay attention to the cops. |
