Guns don't kill people, people kill people - yeah, yeah - garbage. I'm so sick of hearing this tired old argument that right-wingers always trot out. True, a person has to fire the gun, but the gun itself makes it a damn sight easier to kill someone, don't you think? You just point this stick at them from a safe distance and pull the trigger and bang, they're dead. No effort on your part at all apart from twitching your finger! No nasty sharp knife to have to stick into their body, no need to bash their head in with a heavy object or strangle them with your bare hands - and what's more, because you can kill them at a distance, they can't defend themselves, unlike the other methods when they might even fight back and beat you. Sorry, BANG goes your pathetic gun-lovin' defense. BAN them! |

Gun laws won't solve it. If you ban guns, only the crimminals will have them.
I agree it's sickening. I live near Lancaster County, and I am so upset about this. What is wrong when people feel the only way to solve their problesm is to shoot a room of children??? |

This country does not need any more gun-control laws. Incidents that happen, i.e. the pennsylvania killings, would still happen even if the govt banned all guns for law-abiding citizens. Question for you, which would you fear more, criminals only with guns or the govt with the only guns? The 2nd amendmant is our right and was instilled so our govt would not turn into a dictatorship. my answer to the question asked, i fear the govt more if they have the only guns. |

Gun laws don't do anything to deter criminals, they just make law abiding citizens more vulnerable. |

We have this thing called the 2nd amendment, maybe you've heard of it? |

Saying "people kill people, not guns" is like saying that it was people that caused 214,000 deaths in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Sure, it WAS people who developed and dropped the atomic bomb, but wasn't it a convenient and easy way to kill a lot of people in one go?
Also, the second amendment (which is general knowledge, surely, not just known to Americans) was written at a time when there was no organised police force or other law and order in place. When everyone is allowed to be their own policeman, the world is a much more dangerous place.
If ever there was a time to change the constitution, it is now! |

There are other counties that have a high rate of gun ownership but do not have the same problems as the US has with gun related violence. Switzerland, Australia and Canada for example. So I think it is a mistake to blame the problems of gun related violence on gun ownership alone.
But why do we need to have such relaxed gun ownership laws in the US? Our reluctance to reduce the number of guns makes us look like a bunch of war-mongering idiots in the eyes of the rest of the world. |

i am afraid that the answer is going to be never. if there is such a thing as a national psyche it only seems to exist in the most fundamental religious states - eg. saudi arabia, united states of america and when something goes to the very core of the national psyche the way that right to bear arms does with our american cohabitors of this planet, then you, nor the senseless deaths of 10's of thousands of their people per year, ain't gonna change it - more is the pity |

Yeah All Americans even kids need to carry guns if they have nutters walking around.
Alternative is a mental health law where if you have mental health problems you get locked up. |

If it wasn't a gun it would be a knife, crossbow, hammer, and so on. If someone is bent on killing or injuring someone then they will do it. The answer isn't to take guns out of the hands of responsible parties. The answer is to make judges responsible for their sentencing decisions. I'm sick of arresting people for violent crimes just to have a judge sentence them to probation, knowing that they will violate time and time again. There is no deterrent in this country! |

It's not the people.. it's our govt. We have voted and they have not cared. Sorry, write congress or the white house and inform them of your question. Maybe they will read it, or do what they do with us, ignore it. I'm sorry, but we are not being heard. Maybe you will have better luck. Good luck. |

Perhaps if we could sort out our own problems first & have a debate as to whether we should bring back the death penalty, then maybe we can progress quicker for once than the U.S.A we tend to follow them in most things, perhaps if we showed the world what we can do first, other countries may follow us for a change? |

Easy.
Ask a simple question.
"Do you want a gun?"
If they answer "Yes" then they are obviously a nut and they want a dangerous weapon to use to kill people so don't let them have a gun.
If they answer "No" then they don't want a gun so don't let them have a gun. |

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
If you're British, we shouldn't have to teach you about dependent and independent clauses. |

The freedoms that make the United States great can also allow tragedies like this to occur. However, there are laws in place to help deter such events. Unfortunately, it takes a collective effort from the DA, judges, juries, probation and parole boards, and a ton of bureaucracy.
In this particular case, I have not yet heard if he has a criminal record. However, in most of these cases, they do. And even in cases where they do not have criminal records, they usually talk about or write about doing something like this. However, most schools and family members do not take it seriously.
A great man once said that if you are willing to give up freedom for security, you no longer deserve the security of freedom.
Those that live outside the US may not understand this, but this idea is what America is all about. It does have problems (such as the Amish incident) but we enjoy more freedoms than just about any other nation. |

when hell freezes over ,its in the constitution and that is the hardest thing to change in u.s. politics, the n.r.a. is the strongest lobby in American politics and funds or supports most of the senate and congress .Mention gun control you wont be elected dogcatcher.re |

Oooh this is a good one. The US will not bring in gun legislation anytime in the near future. This is because it just not possible to enforce it and the government knows this. They would have to bin the second amendment, therfore amending the constitution, then you have all the wanabee vigilantes and their lawyers chasing you preaching breach of human rights.
The law sometimes is an ***, but there you have it. I like the UK. Guns are banned so they play with Knives!!! |

In America, the constitution allows you to carry a gun (2ND amendment). However, it must be noted that just because you can carry a gun it doesn't actually amount to much i.e. in Virginia just because you can carry a gun you can't actually fire it (thats illegal). Also you when you buy a gun you go to the shop and pay for it but can't take it home for 10 days.
I personally believe that guns are wrong and nobody needs one. However, maybe its not only the gun laws that need changing, but also people's attitudes (Walmart sells guns and they are a "family" store (Apparently murder is a wholesome family activity?!?)) |

Banning guns would be no more effective at stopping murder than banning chopsticks would halt our consumption of chinese food. There is no workable solution as simple as changing gun laws. |
