2 things to know BEFORE investing your time in the application process. 1. Be in very good shape BEFORE attending the Academy (Either at F.L.E.T.C. in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NM) The course and job are very physical. 2. Be ready to study hard at the Academy. The academic pace is rapid and difficult. (The courses are designed so that anyone can learn what they need if they keep up with the study load.) Fall behind a day or so and you can pretty much forget passing. I considered the Border Patrol Academy the most difficult course I had ever taken and I'm an ex U.S. Army green beret officer! (and multiple tour Vietnam combat vet)
I see that you are female. Gender is no problem in the Patrol, but being female does NOT change the standards for passing. I know many female Agents and have entrusted my life to them with no hesitation.
The stats are that less than 40% pass the entry exams and interviews and 50% who start the Academy never finish it. I can tell you that if you REALLY want it and are willing to work hard for it, you will be one of the best trained (and very well paid) law enforcement officers in the world. |
