When normally would the police stop your car?

When normally would the police stop your car, suppose that you drive at low speed in town? Are there any reasons they would stop you, or is it the case that nowadays they rely on speed cameras most of the time?

You can be pulled over for going to slow. Speed cameras do pay a small part but most police vehicles are equipped with cameras and they will record you speed and they can get you that way. Of course if the car is unroadworthy or has no tax ect.. they can also pull you over |

if your car is damaged in a way that seems dangerous, you're going over the speed limit, not wearing a seat belt, on your mobile phone, drinking, smoking or taking over another car when it's not safe any of those plus more then the police will have an excuse to pull you over |

All the police need to pull you over is suspicion that gives them the right and reason for all manner of driving related offences. |

If they can see a fault on the car such as faulty lights .If the car is flagged up as having no tax insurance etc on NPR (number plate recognition) cameras.Or if they think the occupants are up to no good.Driving well below the speed limit is one indicator of someone trying not to draw attention to themselves but has the opposite effect |

The police could stop you at any time.
I tend to stop and check lots of cars based on probability. The more cars I stop the more likelihood there is that I produce more work, such as;
-People driving without licences
- No insurance
- Disqualified drivers
- Drunk drivers
- Drivers under the influence of drugs
- Wanted people
- Intelligence on criminals as to current vehicles and associations.
These are just a few examples. I look at the car and occupants and base the stop on my thoughts on either of those.
The police do not need a reason to stop you other than under the Road Traffic Act, to check your documents. |

Contrary to the views of one of the answers above, the police don't stop people to generate money.
I personally do it for road safety.
Driving at low speeds in town or anywhere for that matter is often the sign of a drink driver so this could get you pulled over.
Generally speaking an experienced officer will 'have a nose' for who needs to be pulled over, if there is no obvious reason to do so, such as the driver having committed a driving offence which is witnessed by the officer.
You aren't really likely to get pulled over unless you are drawing attention to yourself.
I've been driving for 15 years and have only been pulled over once and that was because I was speeding (before I became a Police officer).
Bear in mind though that in the UK the police can pull you over whenever they want to just to check your driving documents. |

yes there are loads of reasons as to why they would want to stop you but the biggest reason is bcuase they have nothing better to do but arrest innocent people |

A police officer can stop you when ever they like whilst driving a motor vehicle, but most stop for a reason, stops any grief later. Driving too slowly is actually a good reason to stop some one, could be drunk, could drugs. could be lost, I would give directions to help you out. |

stop eating people, dammit

Assuming the car hasn't been reported as stolen; the car's not on fire; etc.; the textbook answer is, they'll stop you if you commit a traffic violation, but they can't pull you over without a reason.
The reality is, the traffic laws are sufficiently complex, and sometimes so out of sync with the real world -- (ever try observing the 55 mph speed limit on some US interstate highways in urban areas?) -- that most drivers will commit *some* sort of traffic violation even when making a quick trip to the corner market. So the reality is that the police can usually find some excuse to pull you over.
Given that, the real answer is, they'll pull you over for speeding, etc., but they'll also find some excuse to pull you over if they suspect you're doing something illegal (carrying drugs; DWI; etc.) |

they will stop you in your car if you are out when its dark. they need to know where you are going. they need to know your address, your phone number, your mothers maiden name and what you had for breakfast on the 3rd of october last year. answer those questions and you are free to go |

checking if you're drunk or under any influence, checking if you have drugs,... many reasons including checking what dodgy thing somebody asking such a question on the internet is planning to do ;) |

The cops will stop your car when the city needs money.
You may have noticed that more tickets are given on the last 3 days of every month. |

If you were driving the speed limit, they could be pulling you over because a headlight or a brake light is not working, you seem suspicious, etc. |

They can pull you over for any reason. |
