When police officers are murdered, the police respond differently, what do you think?

Yes it does seem that way. And it is true to a certain extent. We are not machines, we are people. When one of our own is involved, it gets more of our attention. The same is true anywhere else. Someone is a victem of a crime in your neighborhood, you are naturally concerned and sympathetic. If it is someone in your household, you are a lot more than just concerned and you are far from sympathetic. You are PISSED and you want it taken care of immediately, top priority, nothing else matters. We have to balance that feeling with all the other crimes we are working on.

Also, think of this, when someone kills a cop, it removes a peice of that protection you have. It also removes someone who could be working on solving a crime that victemized your family.

If you are crazy enough to shoot a cop, you are crazy enough to shoot anyone. This makes you a danger to the general public and this is why the police will hunt you down like a dog, not because of vengeance.

I always wonder myself. Like you, I am eager to hear replies from law enforcement people. Cop-killers are not necessarily more dangerous than other killers and yet always get a lot more attention from the police. Your question is the best I've seen here.

no doubt, the cops have been givin way to much power and they abuse terribly, it happens so suttle too, its to bad cuz thats how the nazis started, not saying that is whats going to happen here but it cud with the attitude our leadership has, and people will not rise above the leadership so that means alot of the social ills are direcrectly related to police abuse of power

Some of what you say may be true but.... If a person shows so little re guard for the life of a person that protects you, how much will that person respect your life? Most police officer murders are a result of another crime. (The bad guy just victimized someone else.) So in essence they are doing double duty.

You might also think that if you brother or sister we murdered, would you not do what you could?

If someone will kill a police officer they would do anything, this shows and makes them much more dangerous than any other level of criminal, Even the state laws have the punishment for killing a police officer at a higher level than that of others.

And no it is not unfair to anyone, it is how the law is set up.
But in some cases becuase it is a fellow officer, many officers will give up thier own days off and work on thier own time.

But then when kids are missing or people lost, they also do the same thing for them, giving up thier own time to help.

"Cop Killers" generally have already commited other heinous crimes and, at the point they shoot and kill a police officer, are desperate to avoid prison/jail/death penalty. While it does seem like greater urgency is placed on "Cop Killers," it is only because the media displays these cases so prominently. Hearing the term "Cop Killer" only adds a more dangerous element to an already dangerous job.

Cops are brothers in arms in a way.They share a common bond and are like family. That said... If someone killed your mother or father youd most likely go apeshit and hunt the ****** that killed them.

If someone killed the neighbor you never spoke to im sure youd react differently.

Naturally cop-killers are hunted like the mangy dogs that they are. However, I counter your argument with this: Perhaps the media (who you get most of this sort of info from i'm guessing) portrays the investigation that way. I really doubt that police anywhere (at least for the most part) don't hunt down killers of normal citizens with any less fervor than they hunt down one who has killed their own. The media just likes a sensational story, and ups the details to make you perceive it this way.

I imagine what you say is true. But how could a police officer not respond a little different if one of their own was killed. Would they not want the same done for them should they go down on duty. Anyone who kills a cop should realize that they are going to have the complete attention from police officers to find the murderer of their fallen officer, that's just the way it is, and will be. It doesn't mean that hey don't do a good job when a regular citizen gets murdered, it just means that if you kill a cop you will be on the run until you are caught, or until you die. That's a given!

Yes, they do. They hold their fellow donut-eating 'heroes' in great esteem, and somehow think these rights-abusers are better than the average American citizen. Fu(k them all.

People that kill, or even assault, police officers should be pursued with greater zeal. The police officers are there to protect the public and are much more likely to be in situations that can turn violent. The idea is to deter people from going up against the police in any situation. Do NOT mess with cops. Ever. Period.

Double standard, sure is. And I would bet that you are a the head of the line with a rope whenever a police officer commits a crime. Screaming for swift punishment that you would not even think to apply to civilians that commit the same infraction. The police are on both ends of your "double standard" so go thank a police officer that you can walk the streets safely.

Hey these cops are out of control and if some nut case kills a cop, that keeps the other cops in line. Now what if all the cops were killed,that does not seem likely but if it happened then people would just have to defend their own property.NRA

You have to respect police, even if some deserve shooting. Seriously, that is one profession that draws as many power hungry psychopaths as the criminal world does. However,the good ones deserve our respect and people who kill cops get stiffer sentences because they are deemed to be flagrantly committing violence against the concept of the law.It's not anything personal to do with the cop's death, but disregard of law beyond the extend other criminals /murders disregard the law. The flip side of that should be that the police who go bad should be come down on harder too as they are in a position of trust and power which they are also abusing in as much disregard for the law as cop killers.
