This can happen apparently, the eyeballs allegedly boil in their juices and could pop out were they not contained by the mask worn by the condemned.
The condemned´s usually given two minutes of shocks, before having their pulse taken and if necessary two more minutes of shocks are given - this process continues until the sentence has been carried out. However before the pulse is taken, the body is left to cool for four minutes, it heats up that much. I believe the condemned usually wears a nappy, too, for obvious reasons.

The head and legs of the condemned person are shaved and the prisoner is strapped into the chair. A moist sponge is placed on the head to aid conductivity. One electrode is attached to the head and a second attached to the leg to provide a closed circuit. At least two jolts of an electrical current are applied with the time and current depending on the physical state of the condemned person. Typically an initial voltage of around 2,000 volts is applied for up to 15 seconds to attempt both to induce unconsciousness and to stop the heart. The voltage is then lowered to reduce current flow to approximately 8 amps. The body of the person may heat up to approximately 138°F (59°C), and the electric current will generally cause severe damage to internal organs.
In theory, unconsciousness occurs in a fraction of a second. However, there are multiple reports of things going wrong during the process. There have been incidents of a person's head on fire; of burning transformers, and of a chair breaking down after the initial jolt and letting the condemned wait in pain on the floor of the execution room while the chair was fixed. In 1946, the electric chair failed to execute Willie Francis, who reportedly shrieked "Stop it! Let me breathe!" as he was being executed. It turned out that the portable electric chair had been improperly set up by an intoxicated trustee.
Eyeballs do not pop out, however brains do boil but no steam comes out. |

Probably true. As they place a hood over the head, I don't know for sure. I guess its one of those things that is probably worse than what we're led to believe. A bit like the supposedly pain-free lethal injection. |

Not really, but it is not a very efficient way to kill someone.

Watch it for yourself on "Faces of Death Part 1" Video or DVD you can rent it at a lot smaller video stores but I don't think the bigger chains like Blockbuster caries them I think netflix does though.....and to answer your question Yes their eyeballs do explode at least they did on this true documentary all about death. They put tape over the eyes so they won't pop out but they start bleeding all over the place under the tape....I just want to warn you If you cant handle watching real death DO NOT Watch these videos. There is like part 1 all the way to part 10 a pretty big series of them and they are not for the light hearted...They are very sick flicks to watch...My wife couldn't handle it at all and had nightmare for weeks so if this happens to you all I can say is I warned you...........enjoy........................ |

no, its all about science...u know how in movies when someone is in a bathtub and get schocked by like a radio or something, well its because of the water around them...it acts as a conductor...now if someone were to go to the electric chair without the proper treatment then it would probably be pretty nasty...have u ever seen "green mile"...yeah kinda like that...by the way, only one state still uses the electric chair ....:) |

dont no about the eyes...but the brain does boil...years ago it used to be a wet cloth on the head to intensife the current
they also used to put a hood over the head so no one could see |

when someone is electrocuted the current causes the mussels to tense up. the current that passes though the body of someone in the electric chair is so high that the mussels will actually break bones and crush organs and the heat can cause the skin and hair to burn.can't really comment on the eye thing though the heat caused could boil blood so i guess that it is possible that they expolde due to the liquid heating up and expanding. hope that this satisfies your morbid imagination |
