Unless they follow you around 24/7, they can only be there when you call them. Divide the number of citizens by the number of Police. The final number should tell you why they're not always around when you need them. |

How many police do you think there are you should be asking?
You have no idea how few there are out on the streets going from one call to another.
The same typical response from someone who hasn't a clue what the real situation is! |

Let's see......if you call them, they will come. Do you think there are like a million police officers to every area? You'd wrong. |

The police are not perfect, but they would do better with more support and less mindless criticism. |

The Officers aren't useless it's the parents of these yobs that you should be having a go at. |

i dont think they are useless..i think they are tied by proceedure & politcal correctness..which is annoying for us.
I was watching the Spanish police on tv..and the way they deal with yobs...they bash them with their truncheons...soon sorts the problems out - shame we cant do that here!! |

Dog lover has spent 25 years in the job. So he must have seen the deterioration in the way the police forces work. Once upon a time there was a bobby in every village. He knew everyone and everyone knew him. He was the link between the people and the bigger stations. He had local knowledge and information. If he was lucky he rode his bike around and saw far more than any officer in a patrol car ever will. PCSO the new police team has no power so basically is costing money for nothing. The problem is not only the police but the basic lack of respect and morality in the country. PCSO posts should be in offices. Police should be on the street. Until you get the bobby back living and working amongst the people you will always have a problem finding one. |

first and formost the police are only a few compaired to the great many of regular citizens they are trying to deal with the major crimes and if you dial the right number they usually come right away or just do something stupid and illegal that will get their attention |

According to the US DoJ website, there are 655,000 law enforcement officers in the U.S. The population of the U.S. currently stands at over 300 million.
That means that only 0.2% of the population are police officers.
It also means that there is one cop for every 458 people. Kind of a big assignment for cops. And of course, there's the idiot who believes the law is for everyone else, but not for him because that's, well, 'different.'
And there are LOTS of those people out there.
And cops are also constrained by city council. For example, there is a huge problem around here with people driving on no insurance. So, when someone is stopped for it, their car is supposed to be impounded. But city council decided that it's unfair to the illegals. And since they exempted the illegals from impoundment, then they can't enforce it against other drivers, either.
And then, during the last week of every May and the first week of June, the cops are too busy stopping drivers for seatbelt violations because the federal government has a program to waste the cops' time.
And now, in Bangor, Maine, the cops have an additional job. They must be on the lookout for drivers smoking while there is a kid in the car, and bust those drivers.
They ain't cops, no more, they're freaking social therapists and baby sitters. And it ain't the cops' fault but the government passing more simpleton laws that takes up their time.
And, no, I've never been a cop and sure don't wanna be. I don't consider it good enough pay to put up with all those hassles. |

They are probably dealing with the rest of the local population that needs them as well, if you are requiring the Police on such a regular basis then maybe you should be asking yourself why you are always the victim of crime?
But on the plus side as you are so determined to make a difference I am sure your local Police will be pleased to accept your application for the specials and then you can see where the Police really are when you need them. |

Helping other people, tehy cant be everywhere at once, how about you contribute to the community and go and have a word with those 'yobs', clearly they ae bothering you so much, but in the end you just want someone else to do it for you.
Let's learn to spell the word 'Police' before you even begin to try and start a discussion like this, your just spreading hate, and for the record, this isnt even a question, you answer your question with a statement, as if your trying to make us think the same way as you? |

What people don't realize is when you call 911 you are not the only person calling in for assistance. Another thing is that we have to prioritize our calls which means you might be calling about a suspicious vehicle when another person on the other line is calling about someone shooting at him/her. And to respond to these other answers, officers are not always on breaks. We are lucky if we get a break in a 12 hour shift. |

Having read the comment of "Dog Lover", I get the feeling you are quite against the police.
They are time when anyone would think like you, moments of frustration.
But don't you think that the police can also get frustrated by the amount of street violence ?
Their efforts to prosecute criminals rendered useless by the court on the pretence that the said criminals have rights, so they walk off laughing at the police ?
Do you think that the police got an officer on each and every street corners ?
Wake up to reality man !
Some officers may be a bit hard on misdemeanours but generally, they are a good bunch and deserve respect. |

Gee, I am not a devout, police admirer myself but I think you need to search the classifieds for a job, before you turn into a yob...
Instead of carrying so much hatred, grow a pair and pull a camera on a cop sometime. Watch him mellow out into the sweetest puppy. Then you'll feel empowered... |
