It is a crime, and if you wish to report it, call your local FBI office. (Check the government pages) Now they are only going to care if it is a large scale business. If it is small, you might call your local police. They can handle the copyright cases too.

To the person who said this is civil, it is also civil, but burning DVD's to sell, is theft from the movie company, and is a crime. Just read that little FBI and INTERPOL warning on DVD's.
Now if this is just someone burning a DVD for a buddy, let it go. Just as sharing a joint with a friend is a felony (at least in California---email me if you want that explained) it is not worth the time to prosecute something that small.

Do you really think the FBI care if someone is burning DVD's..?

Good luck...Local Police probably don't have time to deal with this sort of thing....if you want to waste your time and report this to the FBI...keep in mind, if you HAVE EVER downloaded a song/movie off of the internet without permission, or copied a quote, or idea out of a book without giving credit, YOU ARE GUILTY as well........don't throw stones from glass houses........

You local police or state police should have a unit that deals with counterfeiting. Look on the web for a contact number and call them about it. Prepare information on names, nicknames, location, vehicle descriptions and descriptions of the people involved, and hours of operation. Every little bit of information will help. You don't necessarily become a witness if the police can observe enough going on to make a case themselves since they have to conduct an investigation to establish probable cause to arrest. Ask about being a confidential informant if the situation warrants it.

Report the incident to www.fbi.gov.

Just list the persons phone number that is burning the DVD's. First of all there is no reward,
Second, you will become a witness, which means BS, and lengthy court crap that their lawer will handle, but you will still miss work for.
So if you just list their phone number we will all benefit, they will eventually get busted, and the IRS will THEN get involved for their their cut, which will ream the perp (victim) more than the FBI ever could or would have.
And I assume it is an ex's new fling doing the deed! Yup, that'll teach 'em good.

Golden
you don't. it's a civil matter.

maybe better you go tell your mom you need counseling.

fbi website will help you.

Look in your local phone book in the gov't pages. Out here those pages are blue. The FBI should be listed.

As previous answers have noted, either check your phone book or check the doj website to link to the fbi website.

For those who indicated that this was not a crime but just a civil matter, there are provisions of the criminal code covering violation of another person's copyright. Even without specific statutes, it would still fall under a general theft statute as you are taking what belongs to someone else (the right to distribute the movie or tv show). Obviously, there is a difference between minor offenses -- making a copy of your mix list for a friend -- and major offenses -- selling bootleg copies of a movie on the street corner.

What's illegal about burning DVD's? But to call the FBI, just look it up in your yellow pages under government.

call police

StangGirl
go to www.fbi.gov and on the top left hand side of the page there's a section called "contact us" and right underneath that is a link called "your local fbi office"

click that, put in your info and it will tell you where the nearest FBI office is and how to get in contact with them.
