I don't have an answer, but I wanted to say that I don't think there's anything wrong with this question. It's a perfectly innocent thing to wonder about and I wonder why people are so negative about giving you a straight answer. What's the harm in this? Geez! I like gimpalomg's answer though. I think what you really want to know is whether or not the police have to store their weapons at the station when they go off watch.
I have never known any police force in the US that did that. And I have only heard of one force where the chief didn't expect his officers to be armed at all times.
Oh Yeah, the military is an exception. MP's don't carry off duty.
Hope that's the information you really wanted. |

I'm required to have access to my service weapon twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week unless on vacation at which it's optional. The weapon goes home with me and is easily accessible by me, but safely away from my child. |

I have several handguns, a shot gun and a rifle, so there's always something within reach. When my daughter was little, everything except my duty weapon went into a gun safe, and my duty weapon stayed with me. |

When I'm not on duty (which is not always at night, I'm working 12 to 8am today) my gun is locked up in my change room at work. There are actually very few officers at my police service that take their guns home (Ontario Canada). Those that do have them locked up in a gun safe (as per safe storage regulations). |

It probably depends on if they have family or are single. When single it goes in a drawer usually in the bedroom so its in easy reach; when there are children around or a family it goes in a lock box. |

Some keep them with them 24/7.
Some keep htem at the PD locked up, while carrying a BUG.
Some keep them locked up at home.
Some keep them.........
Most departments don't have a requirement - other than to say it should be stored in a safe manner.

he or she can keep it anywhere they want.if there i children in the home they should keep in in a place the children can not access,like in the top of a closet or a locked box. with no children in the home they are normally kept in a more accessible place.i am retired and keep mine under my pillow. the reason for this is that there have been numerous home invasions in the county |

Their duty weapon stays with them, not at the station while they're off duty, and most officers with children in the house will use a lock box, no kids they keep them either in a lock box or handy.. :)
I'd say 99% of officers would tell you the same thing, locked up or nightstand. |

Should be kept in a lock box when at home off duty, or fire proof safe, either case as long as it is under lock and key. |

One pistol in the night stand, one pistol under the mattress, my wife has a pistol (I'm not sure where it is), another pistol in the spare bedroom closet, two rifles and a shot gun in the master bedroom closet. |

Most of them are required to lock their piece inside their locker at the station. However, certain officers take their piece with them to be ready for a call out when off duty.

Usually they take them wherever they go. In CA police are "on duty" 24 hours a day. Most of the rookies like to wear them on their side with their badge on their belt so they can get laid. |
