Which is better NYPD or LAPD?

If you want more murders and stuff LAPD but if you just want more people, skyscrapers, and stuff NYPD. Personaly, I would choose LAPD because it is a lot more exciting and if you search on google "police scanners live online" you can listen to the LAPDs radio and maybe the NYPDs but I think there is a lot more activity in LAPDs radio. there are more books on the LAPD.

Better for what? I have been with LAPD for over 15 yrs, but both are outstanding organizations. You have to be more clear if want want any good/usable answers.

Having lived in both cities (currently live in NYPD... for the last 8 years) I think I can weigh in on this. Simply put, the LAPD has superior training. They're pretty calm and professional. They're almost scary the way they all act the same; like the Stepford Wives of cops. You can't get them angry, even if you try, they don't argue... but if you push them over the line, they'll very courteously drag you by your short hair to jail. They are by the book, very straight-laced. Again, I can only attribute this to training. Someone mentioned that NYC has less crime. There has been news stories that attribute NYC's drop in crime rate to under-reporting by the PD so crime that's being reported by citizens isn't making its way to the blotter. The NYPD is under scrutiny to drop the crime rate. NYPD officers are often unprofessional. I'm not sure where their hiring pool is coming from, but half of them can't put together 6 words in a sentence that isn't incendiary and steeped in ignorance. They come across as uneducated; I'd prefer that cops have good education. Power, a gun and stupid isn't a great combination. And I don't mean to be judgmental about dress code, but NYPD allows their male offices to wear long hair and earrings. Not to mention that a lot of NYPD officers are borderline obese. (LAPD officers and like a super army of well conditioned storm troopers... yeah, kind of scary.) I can't help but think that because they pay the NYPD so poorly, you're getting what you pay for. Hands down, LAPD is superior.
