A guy just told me a cop could pull you over for going 1 mph over the speed limit. Just about everyone I know drives 5 mph over, so if a cop pulls you over for going 1 mph, that's pretty lame excuse. Just let people drive for crying out loud. I bet the majority of people on here drive a little over the speed limit every day.

I NEVER did, because i'm not old enough yet to drive. Lol. I think if you speed 8mph over the speed limit the police can charge you but if its 7mph and less over the speed limit then you should be fine. Don't listen to your friend unless he's an expert on road law. Lol. :-) |

Technically, you can receive a ticket and be found guilty of speeding for traveling 1mph above the limit.
Law enforcement normally and under the best driving conditions will give a bit of discretion when it comes to speeding violations. This is primarily based upon where the offense occurs.
If you are under 10mph over the limit on a highway or under 5mph over the limit in a residential or school zone...most officers will normally provide an oral or written warning.
Your friend is right as far as the offense being ticketable...but I believe he's just making a point but it is not the norm! |

Well the radar is acurate to +/- 3mph so you could easily fight it, which is why they usually dont pull you over unless you are going at least 10. |

Officially one mile over the speed limit is illegal. Most cops aren't going to pull you over for that but when I was teaching traffic school I did get students in there for doing 3,4, 5 miles over, so they can pull you over for any speed over the limit. The idiot telling you "its allowed" is of course guessing, as most of the people do in this section. |

Dude, does the word LIMIT mean anything to you? They say speed limit because it is the max you can go before being pulled over. So 1 mph over the limit makes you cop bait!
