Who do you think should get payed more?

As a future cop, I'd love to be paid as much as a movie star.

But to answer your question, it's fine the way it is.
More pay for police means more people will want to be officers.....and it will be less about protecting and serving, and more about sitting around collecting a pay check.

The love of the work is what makes so many police officers great at their job.

-and that's not to mention where the money would have to come from to pay police more....

as a cop, i can say i work with a small group of guys who know what police work is all about. we are professional, compassionate, fair, respectful, and do our job the right way because we genuinely enjoy our work and care about our reputation, but sadly i must say, i work with some real boners.. this includes the guys who think they are above and beyond everybody else, the guys who think writing traffic tickets all day is "police work". the guys who look at everybody like they are an a**hole and wasting the police time.. i have an idea, lets get rid of the unfit inadequate persons taking up space on the town or city police payroll, and give their salaries to the few police officers out there who truly enjoy what they do, and do their job the way it is supposed to be done.

No one is in law enforcement to get rich. Law enforcement should be paid more but it will never happen because the bureaucrats think we are paid enough. We are in law enforcement because we want help people in any way we can and to try to make things better.

Police Officers, Teachers, Nurses, Paramedics & Ambulance Staff, Firefighters, Bin Men (an important yet horrible job), Nursery Staff and people who can actually spell paid.

The free market says you should be able to earn whatever anyone is willing (or stupid enough) to pay you.

As a capitalist, I accept that.

A person who does NOTHING significant in life (such as a professional athlete) earns MILLIONS while a person who makes a REAL impact in the world (school teacher, fireman) get paid crap.

As long as people are forking over $50 a ticket, and $100 for an "official jersey" and then $4 hotdogs and $5 beers..... the athletes will be paid.

So... if an INTELLIGENT person had "financial success" as a lifetime goal.... choosing to be a school teacher or fireman would be a very stupid choice.

One has nothing to do w/the other since they are paid by movie companies and cops are paid by US the tax payer.

Agree to tax hikes cops and teachers would get more money.

Lots of cops find ways of increasing their pay illegally , whether it be pulling over mexicans on friday and taking all of their money or " confiscating " drugs ( or even booze if they are in a dry county ) " and reselling them , or receiving " protection " money . Even for the cops that aren't on the take , their job really isn't very strenuous . They pretty much just gotta ride around in a car and be a smart*** to everyone , but their job can be dangerous at times and I suppose they do deserve to get paid something extra for that . Even so , I can think of a whole lotta jobs that are way more underpaid than being a cop .
