Who else thinks cops should be more like military police in north america?

To what end? So the cops beef up their arsenal and those that commit crime will do the same. It's a never ending cycle.

Many police already have a long gun. It's just typically in the car until it's needed. M-4/M-16/Mini-14 are the most common. The Hollywood shootout opened the eyes of police all across the nation.

People solve problems, but sometimes it takes a weapon to stop those that refuse to be reasonable. Military level police operations, I don't think that would be a good idea. Better weapons for the police, that I agree with. That said, allowing the populace to be armed, and to be able to defend themselves from the lawless would go a long way to reducing crime. Put it this way, would "you" be willing to drive down a street shooting at homes, knowing that every home has a person properly trained in the use and legal obligations for using a weapon available to return your fire? That would mean that "you" are a lone target for everyone in range of the car you are in. That would be an even better way to have things done. Then all the police need to do is to either have the coroner collect the body, or arrest the person if still alive. It is a proven fact that where the citizens can defend themselves, crime is very low.

MP's are basically a joke. Have you even been on a military post? They get no respect. And, I've never seen an MP carrying an M16 outside of a war zone. So, basically, you're asking who else thinks the military should patrol the streets as if they were in a combat zone. No. I do not agree.

I do not think that civilian police officers should look and act like military personnel. It would probably violate the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878.

Most officers in my department carry an AR in their car while on patrol. Kinda stupid to be constantly walking with an AR when you don't need it.

And although many criminals do have guns, including assault weapons, they are in a tiny minority of folks that we deal with. In my five years on the street in a very busy and crime ridden city. I have been directly involved in one shooting, and my glock served me just fine. In most shooting incidents I'm aware of, the need for an AR could have been figured out relatively early on, and thus retrieved from the car in good time.

Its the media's role in our society to their their "news". Thus you get the stories of the bad guys with big guns scare stories. And yes they are true, but not as representation of what is happening day in and day out on the street.

Do you trust the police with your life, I know I don't. Cops are not paid to die for other people and they shouldn't be expected to. I think people have the right to protect themselves from criminals and that includes carrying guns, I believe in the right to self defense and the right to hold unregistered hand guns.

Giving the cops better guns is not the solution because cops cannot be everywhere. Cops can call for back up of 4 other cops and go into a place behind a swat team in body armour. Normal people have no right under current law to self defense that is the real problem. Gangs know that only they and cops have guns so they act like they are king of the world

it all depends on where you live i know in some neighborhoods most of the houses are $$ cops are patrolling the area constantly even help school kids cross the streets lol.., and in bad neighborhood cops are not as friendly with gangs so they try to limit their patrols cause nobody wants to get shot cop or not.

The day i see police in this country patrolling with automatic weapons will be the day I start carrying MINE, for protection from THE POLICE!

No, statistics show the more gun control you have the more crimes/violence occurs.
