Find answers to your legal question.

Who pays my landlord for a new door that the cops kicked in?

Last week I was sitting at home minding my owns business and here come the cops with six cars, a paddy wagon, a helocopter and two dogs. They come up on my house and kick down my door, throw some grenade in threw mine window and grab me and some of the people I was kickin with. They say they got a search warent and they ain't paying for none of the damage. Now mine landlord is axing me to pay. I just got areested. I ain't got no money. I just got out. My door is done broke done and anyone can just walk up in my house. I live in a bad neighborhood. How soon will they fix my house?

Alas, the cops aren't going to fix your house. Your landlord's homeowners insurance covers damage to the building. Whether you got arrested or not, it was the COPS that caused the damage and you, as a renter, are not responsible for it. To protect yourself, fix the door. Let the insurance company sue the city for repayment.

jo-jo
You are responsible for that door.

MLE
They won't fix your house, they had a warrant. You have to pay for the damage.

Vpot
They won't, you will.
Sorry. That's the way it works.
You can file a complaint with the city.

ducky
you have to pay !

Sorry, bud. You are responsible for the damages. Next time, don't be doing stuff that would cause the po-po to raid your crib.
I am sure that you are perfectly innocent. (sarcasm)

thats the least of your problems, considering you will be drowning in legal fees soon, i predict. they knocked first didnt they? and you didnt answer the door right? that means its your fault they had to break the door down. youre responsible for paying for the door; to answer your question, they wont fix your house- you have to do it. see if you can find a door that fits your frame used, and do it yourself. itll be a lot cheaper. even if you were innocent (and it sounds like you probably werent), youd have a hell of a time trying to get the city to reimburse you for anything- their fault or not. it would take months if it happened it all.

howldine
If you deserved to get arrested, you pay for the door. If the cops wrongfully arrested you, they pay for the door.

If you are having a fun time joking while you talk in this colorful manner, good for you. I got 2 points.

If you're guilty, you pay. If the police had a REASON to show up, you pay.

superSymmetric
Ummm..... why were they there? I am thinking it wasn't because you haven't been cleaning your bedroom.

If you are truly innocent, I am sure you could talk to the police department, or someone at the city about getting compensated.

If, however, you were engaging in some illegal activity - or allowing others who were at your crib to - well, then you know the rules : you play, you pay.

video production
You fix it, and if it was a mistake that they came into your house, then file a complaint, and see what happens. But why did they come into your home, were you doing anything wrong?

You must pay the consequences for your actions. You pay.

The Axman
If you were arrested because of the warrant you are liable. If no arrests were made your insurance will pay for it after you make a police report or give them the report the officers filed after executing the warrant. If you have no insurance your landlord will have some. It will up to the insurance company to sue the city. Its your landlords responsibility to maintain the home to a livable standard. If your door is gone he must replace it first, then look to be re imbursed. Give him 24 hrs then call your housing authority. If you or your one of your crew were arrested your are 100% liable.

You will have to

The best advice I can give is MOVE! Get out of that messed up neighborhood, and start a new life! Hopefully a better one!

"I ain't got no money." is a double negative and means you do have money, so you should go get your place fixed up.

Interesting story, but I am wondering why you are on Y!/A when you have all this stuff going on, and just got out of jail, etc, etc....you have nothing more to do?

I find it hard to believe that the cops came with 6 cars, a paddy wagon, a helicopter, 2 dogs, threw a grenade in your house, and you're back in your apartment within a week!

The only way the police would have done something like that is if you were being arrested for something worth going to jail for a LONG time. They only do things like that in hostage situations or if you're wanted for a violent crime, which would put you in jail for several years.

And a search warrant is to collect potential evidence or a controlled substance or contraband. You're telling me they did all that to get something from your house? I don't think so, they would at first knock on your door and give you a chance to let them search before using the power of the search warrant, that's how it ALWAYS is!

So the answer to your question is: No one pays for your broken door, because it's not broken. You made the whole thing up. If you want attention, making up stories is NOT the thing to do!

Iamme
You are responsible for the damage especially if the cops had good reason to break down your door. If it was done by the cops by mistake and they had the wrong address and then they are responsible for the damage done.

Since it was you and/or your homies they were coming for, that leaves you responsible.

It pays to stay out of trouble!

Pancake
If the cops had broken down the wrong door, then you could TRY to sue them for unlawful damages.
