yeah , i think they're a little too concerned.
i dont shoplift (nor do i plan to) either, but its so dumb.
and can someone constantly be watching these cameras screens in a back room or something .?
its horrible and i think they need to let up a little bit . |

You should be glad they do. The less things stolen, the cheaper the products. Box stores adjust prices for losses such as theft. |

yes they have some covert cameras on the lower shelves and im sure they can look up ladies skirts the filthy dogs |

I don't shoplift either, but a lot of people do. I don't blame them. They have to protect their inventory. It's not just Walmart. It's all major chains. |

With the amount of stuff that gets stolen from them, I can't blame them. If they don't do something to the the shoplifting down, they will have to increase prices to cover the losses. Then everyone will complain about that. |

Guess what? ...they are not the only store. I heard of a large department store that has hidden cams in the dressing room to watch for people shoplifting...it was used as evidense when a friend of mind was a juror on a shoplifting case. It is legal! This store used female and male security to watch the appropriate dressing rooms by camera. So remember to wear underwear when trying on clothes LOL

I don't care for you much

me but on a buisness end it's very smart..Anyone that tries to steal from Wal-mart almost always gets caught..They can't have people stealing from them or they would lose money |

How much privacy do you feel entitled to in PUBLIC??? |
|

Yeah. It's crazy. People no longer have privacy.
Ps. I've stolen from walmart before and I didn't get caught, so I'm not sure if the cameras even really work or if someones watching them. |
|

YA is a sham

No, it's not an invasion of privacy. You can only be assured of privacy in your own home, any public place is fair game.
Only those who are up to no good have anything to worry about.
As far as I am concerned, there should be more surveillance cameras...everywhere. |

i know i went in there one day if you go into the food part they have a small camera on the wall its like why would i want to steal food? but yea i hate how walmart does that they hav ecameras on some of their tvs they take them off when you buy them but yea they do tak eit far |

That's because people try to rob them blind.
It's sad that there are so many people with no conscience who feel they have a right to steal.... but it's a fact.
If you aren't stealing, it shouldn't bother you. |

It's a bit strange to have cameras in the walls and stuff...but maybe it's working....Maybe they catch the people that steal and get their stuff back, so the money they spent on these flash camera is well spent because they don't lose out on profit loss because of theft!
But yeah, it is a bit far fetched! |

Well considering that I no longer work for Wal-Mart......I was a Loss Prevention associate.....I can tell you a few useful things about "Wally world" security and criteria for making an apprehension......
There are 4 specific criteria that have to be met for the LP to make a "good" stop on a suspected shoplifter.
1. They must PHYSICALLY see you remove the merchandise from the shelf (this is called selection).
2. They must PHYSICALLY see you conceal the merchandise on your person or in some sort of bag (Purse, backpack, etc. etc.)
3. They must not loose sight of you or the merchandise for more than 5-10 seconds while you are in the store.
4. They cannot attempt to make an apprehension until after you are past the last Point of Sale (registers).
These are called the 4 elements of a “good” stop; if all 4 of these elements are not met 9 times out of 10 the Wal Mart LP’s will not attempt an apprehension (unless they are willing to risk their $10 per hour job)
People make the assumption that cameras are looking at certain areas that the LP's can make a stop based only on the Camera evidence......WRONG.....They must physically see you commit the act and attempt to give you every available opportunity to pay for the item (even if it's down in your pants) The LP's CANNOT make a stop inside the store, they must wait until you are past the last register available.
The Cameras are primarily there for insurance purposes, to record if someone falls, and if they caused the fall themselves or if there was something there to cause the fall.....Oh yea before I forget......Wal-Mart uses a lot of "Dummy" cameras in high theft areas to discourage would be thieves.
The electronic alarms at the front of the store are just deterrents as well, LP’s cannot stop you just because you set the alarm off, this is the reason for the “greeter” to check your receipt against the items in your bag, if you set it off, you will be asked to check your bag with the greeter, you will then be asked to walk thru again without your bags, if you set it off then they will ask you if you have any unpaid merchandise in your possession, if you answer no, they will ask you to walk thru again, if it goes off a third time they will ask you the same question again, and if you answer no you will be given your bags back and let go…….at no time will you be searched, unless you consent to a search. |

Even with cameras or fake camera domes you should see how much an average Wal-mart gets ripped off in a day. Don't worry about 1984 ever happening, it's not cost effective. |

Well , they have the right to protect their staff any way they want just as you have the right to protect your belongings.
Why worry about it if you 're doing nothing wrong?
I'll worry if it was in the washroom . |

They don't have them everywhere. What they do is look at where the high dollar items are, and/or where the areas of high loss happen the most.
More than likely, you were in an area that is connected to the electronics area or an area where shoplifters hit. As for how far they go with their surveillance, again you can look no further than those that steal from them - the shoplifters. They cost stores billions per year, and it forces stores to toughen security, be less easy with return policies, and raise their prices. In the end, we pay for it no matter what. |

How is that an invasion of privacy? It's not like you're in the bathroom or something. They can do what they want, it's their store. They lose A LOT of money every year because of shoplifting, so it makes sense. The people that watch the cameras know what they're looking for (in terms of shoplifter behavior) so they're probably not even concerned with you or the majority of people shopping in the store. Ugh one of my biggest pet peeves are shoplifters. |

Think of it this way, if you aren't shoplifting you have nothing to worry about. Unless you are afraid of them catching you pick your nose. But remember everytime a person shoplifts something, our retail prices are more likely to go up, costing us more money for these five finger discounters to have free stuff. They can place their cameras anywhere if it means they will catch the shoplifter and I don't have to pay for them to have free stuff, I work hard for my money. |

I love Walmart. but I feel really weird when I'm in there...like BIG BROTHER is watching or rather stalking me! Remember Rockwell's song..."somebody's watching me?" It's like that.
hahaha..now I want to go to Walmart...I love them...I'm off to BIG BROTHER'S house...really lol |

When I worked for Walmart, we were told that most of the cameras were fake. I hope this answer helps. Don't take anything and there is nothing to be concerned with. |

You have no reasonable or legal expectation of privacy in a retail store so there is no invasion of privacy.
They however, have every right to monitor their inventory by whatever means they choose. |

If apprehending shoplifters helps them to keep their prices down, then I am all for it.
And if you saw the lengths that people go to when shoplifting, you would understand why there are cameras on shelves. |
