Who thinks those cops on the tube made the right choice in shooting that bloke.?

My problem is with the lies. He wasn't running, He wasn't "asian looking". He wasn't wearing a padded jacket. They didn't challenge him. They jumped him and shot him several times in the head.

I don't really blame them. The bloke ran away from them so you would kind of expect them to shoot. If he did not run away then he would not be dead. And also the police did not want a repeat of the bombs on the tube so they did not want to take any chances.

They had no choice. As far as they were aware, this guy was a real threat to the public and they were obeying orders.

The fuzz had no choice because as far as they were concerned, Charles was a bomber who was about to blow the place up.

The methods used by the Met Police and others is to kill anyone whom they know is a bomber.

In Israel they have dealt with a few bombers by the same method and it's one which we've copied here in UK.

What happened to Charles was a horrific mistake, but at the time the police had no choice. They were on the heels of someone who was about to blow himself and a train load of people up.

We've got to move on from this because I bet the terrorists are just rubbing their heands with glee over all of this.

This doesn't make it right, but if he had been somewhere else he wouldn't have been shot would he?

They had a difficult choice to make at the time they thought he was the failed 21/7 bomber. They killed him with the belief they were saving dozens of other lives on that tube train.

It was a mistake, a tragic mistake but we still have the most professional and highly trained Police force in the world. Suicide bombing is new to Britain, just so long as they learn from these mistakes.

I agree with the guy above me. I mean, we can't just let people walk around wherever they want! I propose that we require permits for walking, people could call ahead, and ask the police if they are allowed to walk in a certain direction for a certain time period.

The killing of De Menzes was a tragic accident. The police were obviously very focused due to the previous attacks and they couldn't afford to take any chances. A man with a rucksack running into the tube automatically would scare the police and reduce their options. Most of the criticism made against this operation come from what the SAS call arm chair experts who may know some of the theory or judge it how they see it ethically but have never been in a life or death situation. The fact he was shot so many times in the head was due to the fact that a suicide bomber mortally injured would blow himself up and they thought they had no choice. Imagine the news if he had been a suicide bomber maybe it would say "Brit Police fail to stop terrorist killing x many people" The officers would also be dead. Basically the situation went bad they did what they thought was best and they have to live with that. People make mistakes and this is another one they shouldn't be judged by people with no operational experience and who have never been close to a similar danger.

Yes.The man was acting suspiciously,doubling back on himself,etc,which would have further made the Police believe that they had the right person.

Firstly, If they thought he was a suicide bomber it is the only way to deal with that issue, But hey its a great way of getting rid of illegal immigrants apart from the costly enquiry. This government losses vast sums of money on enquiry after enquiry.

I was chatting to my friend about this last night and you have to consider a few things:

The cops were plain clothed, I defy anyone not to be spooked if you saw 2 or 3 men running towards you with guns pointing at you. He would also have been nervous after what had happened weeks before (7/7 bombings)!
The cops version of events does not tie up with the other passengers on the tube. The question is whether they really needed to empty their guns into this guy. These are highly trained men, and I think they were over zealous in the handling of the situation.
It seems apparent that the police (including Ian Blain) are trying to cover up something and I think this is what has angered the parents of JP Menezes more than anything else.

I think they got it horribly wrong.

I think they were wrong , that is why people should not carry guns , you have got to be cool and calm , they obviously were not. jcm rip
