People who commit crimes and go to jail, are criminals...and should be punished as such. However, too many bleeding hearts have decided that it's not the criminal's fault that they did this, but societies, therefore, they should not be treated with cruel and unusual punishment.
It used to be that when somebody committed a crime, they feared going to jail. Now, repeat criminals have no fear of prison, because of the reasons you mentioned as well as the fact that they have family and friends already there. The biggest gangs are run out of the prisons, as well as drug trafficking. And what can you do? Nothing, because it's the poor them theory.
Look up Joe Arpaio. He's the Sheriff in Arizona who reinstituted chain gangs, tent cities and requires prisoners to wear pink. Maybe Joe for President?

Is there a reason why you capitalize every word? What is it with you illiterate morons? Either you write everything in all lower case or you capitalize every word. You're an idiot. |

First, every word in your sentences does not need to be capitalized. If you have questions concerning the proper use of capitalization, please reference any on-line source concerning the subject. You receive a "D Minus" for this question since you used commas and periods.
You have obviously never seen a jail or a prison, a fortunate exception in this society, but they are not nice places to live. Where I policed they received two TV dinners a day (turkey only) if they worked and one if they didn't. No one received fast food. If they had a television or an Xbox it was because a family member purchased it for them and brought it in. They do receive a place to sleep, but obviously you've never tried to do it in a large brick room with four hundred other people. The quality of sleep suffers considerably. They received money if they worked, the kingly sum of thirty cents an hour. The jail held it on account for them, they were not allowed to keep it in the cell. I have been told that in long term facilities, prisons and such, it is possible for prisoners to obtain a GED. Since educated people tend to break less laws then the uneducated I think it's a good idea. Of course, it's possible the educated are just harder to catch. No one's relationship with anyone improved because they were in jail, unless the loved ones you are talking about are cell mates. In which case, I don't want to know about it and please do it quietly.
Respect is an important thing in jail, I'll grant you that. When you have nothing, nothing at all, the need for respect becomes overriding. The guards treat prisoners with respect not only because they're human beings and deserve it, but because it makes the guard's life easier. A prisoner treated well and with respect is an obedient prisoner. No guard wants to fight everybody, all the time, every day. Does all of this make a worry free life? No, because jails and prisons are filled with society's true monsters. Disrespect the wrong fellow prisoner, and you end up seriously hurt or dead. It happens every day. |

I'm not sure what facility you're talking about. I've never seen one like that.
I work for a Sheriff's Office and our inmates are locked down 23 hours per day. They are allowed out of their 2 person cells for 1/2 hour to eat lunch and 1/2 hour in the evening to watch LOCAL television (NO CABLE OR SATELLITE) and shower.
Playing any type of game is forbidden, they can only have 30 minutes per week visitation with family members, they can have no photographs or calendars in their cells, they have to ask for a "ration" of toilet paper as it's needed, and the list goes on.
I wouldn't exactly call it "luxury", but if you want to, feel free to try it out. |
