Why Is The BAC Limit For Driving .08?
Find answers to your legal question.

Why Is The BAC Limit For Driving .08?

Three beers in an hour and I'm .08 - I am not even slightly buzzed at that point, but I would get busted for driving drunk? Even though I'm not drunk?

Is it so low because the man just wants to fine people for having a few beers and then driving?

There Are No Accidents
To generate revenue. A 0.08 BAC does NOT indicate inebriation or impairment...it's simply an across the board b*llsh*t guideline. My son was arrested for a DUI even though (according to the police report) he passed ALL field sobriety tests...but blew a 0.12. He's 6'4", 200 pounds...so he can obviously 'handle' a higher BAC than someone 5'2", 130 pounds. He may have had alcohol in his bloodstream...but he was clearly NOT too impaired to operate a vehicle safely.

.08 is the lower limit of the range where people start to get drunk. Some may get drunk much later. But they have to set the limit somewhere.

Amy
You would be surprised how your reactions are affected at .08 even though you may not feel drunk or buzzed.

ornery and mean
One of the things that alcohol does is cloud your judgment. You might not feel buzzed ... but your reaction time is slower than normal.

The primary reason the limit is at .08 is to keep impaired drivers off the road, as you said ... you do not feel impaired at .08!

I have been known to drink a bit too! I avoid the whole question of impairment by not having more than 1 alcoholic drink when I know I'll be driving! I also commit to a one hour sobriety period between my drink and hitting the road.

With my size and weight, I could probably have 2-3 drinks per hour and still not be "legally impaired" but why risk it?
