Because citizens are not allowed to protect themselves in their own homes. Criminals know this and aren't afraid to break in.

There are a number of reasons as to why burglaries are on the increase.
Firstly modern cars are far more secure and in order to effectively steal a car you now have to have the keys meaning car thieves are increasingly having to actually break in to houses and steal keys.
Secondly property crime tends to increase during periods of economic downturn.
Thirdly New Labour have failed to build enough new prison places and as a result criminals are often not being jailed for burglary and when they are jailed are eligible for early release to ease prison overcrowding . Only three in ten burglars in the UK are given prison sentences, with seven out of ten burglars receiving a slap on the wrist or a community sentence.

Even the Burglars themselves admit that Prison is the only real deterrent.

Finally an increase in the supply of hard drugs such as heroin within western societies has brought not just misery to the user themselves but also those they rob and steal from to fund their habit. |

1. The current economic crisis
2. You can't do much to stop someone robbing your house apart from call the police
3. No one fears the consequences |

Because people don't fear the consequences.
If you're unlucky enough to get caught, all you get a slap on the wrists, a caution, and have to walk home!
If getting caught meant a mandatory custodial sentence, I'm sure we'd see the numbers drop!

The economy is in the hole, and people have no money to buy food, that's why. You will see a lot more of this in the near future, count on it. |

The reasons for crime are complex, but in general economic hard times usually see an increase in crime. |

Mainly it's due to the economic downturn - in addition, far too few of us are aware of the dangers especially during the school holidays. You'll be amazed just how many of the 'burglaries' are being carried out by kids on holiday from school.
Check out the houses where you live on a warm/hot sunny day. How many people leave windows upon on the upper floor and then go out thinking it's safe. Well it's not safe. Dad takes son aged 9 out on a burglary spree - they spot a house with an upstairs window open at the side. Dead easy, son climbes onto dad's shoulders and reaches up and gets into open window. Boy then comes down and opens front door - dad goes in etc.
The other main reason for the increase is of course there are now many more of us out of work and this growing army have nothing to do all day.
You know the old saying, "Idle hands to the Devil's work".
You can buy a burglar alarm from BT for about £75 - self install with phone line etc. You pay a monthly fee of £5 and BT monitor your house when you go out and they send a text message to your mobile and also a couple of pals if anyone breaks in. Brilliant service and you can test the system any time by simply going online etc.

Because we no longer have a sense of unity in Britain. Children are often brought up to have a lack of respect and there is a shortage of employment for the unskilled. |

When you have been brought up in the nanny state You come to expect everything for nothing. If its not given you just take it as all sense of responsibility has gone |
