Why are so many cops very overweight or even obese?

I live in texas, and i know that we already have weight problems down here, but it seems like every cop down here is either really overweight or sometimes obese. what do they do if theyre chasing someone on foot? no offense to cops, but the police academy must be pretty easy if all these old fat guys are able to pass it. do you think they need stricter rules about physical fitness?

The police you are talking about probably were fit during the academy and just let themselves go. I know a lot of officers that got on the job and just forgot about working out. I personally feel embarrassed when I see a fellow officer that is out of shape, let alone obese. It's just pure laziness on their part. I workout all the time to stay in shape so the other person cannot overpower me. I think it's all about being one step ahead. But the fat officers are usually lazy anyway and avoid doing real "police work" at all costs. They hang around and usually are the last ones to show up at the scene. |

the only fat cops I see are on TV or in the movies.

we dont have overweight policeman here there is a policy in place that requires them to maintain a standard. |

Everything is bigger in Texas - that's what I always thought.
But really why are singling out the Police? Were you booked for speeding today?
Like you say, Texas has a weight problem - have a look at all the other residents of Texas and I bet you the cop would not look out of place. |

everyone is obese and overweight look around...all the processed food and other garbage. Just these people happen to be cops...and they will wake up one day and have nothing and still be fighting for the very system that took it all away. |
