Why are so many police not nice people?
|
I'd add a stronger expletive, but not appropriate. I realize many cops risk their lives for us and I'm grateful for that. I don't hate them or wish them ill. But why are so many of them needlessly aggressive, rude, untrustworthy, and WHY can they rely on intentional deceit to get a charge or conviction? It just leaves a really sour taste in my mouth.

Police are excellent at reading people. They are like bloodhounds. They have so many interactions with so many different kinds of people, that they are good at reading between the lines and telling what is really going on. They know who is being honest and who is lying. They know who is a mild-mannered person with nothing to hide, and who has an attitude against them. They know who likes them and who doesnt, within a very short period of time. In the first 30 seconds you talk to them, they have figured out much more about you than you have about them. I am not trying to attack you personally and say that you are a liar, have an attitude, or something to hide. I just mean that all people in general, behave in clear and distinctly different ways around cops, depending on how they feel about cops, and the cops know this.
I used to have a negative attitude about cops, and all of my interactions with them were bad. Then for 4 years in my life I was in a very abusive marriage and had to call 911 on my ex husband a number of times to get him to stop hurting me. I had many, many helpful sheriff's deputies come to my assistance and teach me about what to do to finally get out of the situation and move on with my life. If it weren't for cops, I wouldn't be here today typing this to you. I'd be in a wooden box in the ground. After all this, my attitude towards cops changed, and I began seeing them for what they are. They are just people, just like you and me, doing their job. Most of them have families and want to go home at night, just like everyone else. Cops truly do take people at face value. If you are nice to them, they are nice to you. If you have a part of you inside that says, "man I can't stand cops!" they can see this, even if you never say it. The only time I have ever been able to talk my way out of a ticket is when I was honest with them. They don't like being lied to because it happens so much, and it insults their intelligence. If you tell the truth, it impresses them and they are much more likely to treat you like a human being than just another creep going too fast on the freeway. This really works. Ever since I have started being nice to them and telling the truth, I have never gotten another ticket since. I've been let go without a ticket more times than I can remember. |

Because people with a power trip type of personality tend to be attracted to law enforcement. |

Do you have any personal experience, because if you're talking about Youtube videos, they're not a good representation of police as a whole. I know a cop, and he's really nice.
I think if you break the law, they'll be ******* to you :P |

Must be your area. The cops around here are pretty good people. |

They respond to you. All the cops I have dealt with have been very pleasant and friendly. If you greet them with “good afternoon,” or "good evening", and you're polite: you’ll be fine. However, if you come off with an attitude or try to be difficult, that’s bad news. If you want to look and act like a thug, you’ll be treated as such. |

Because most of them are on power trips and nothing makes them more happy then to give you a ticket... |

I think that you might be a little short-tempered and testy if you had to deal with the scum-of-the-earth all day long.
Drug dealers, drug users, pimps, thieves, murderers, and crooks of all kinds. Few of these individuals are known for being pleasant, and dealing with them all of the time must be aggravating, to say the least.
I wouldn't want to do it; I couldn't stand the stress. |

Police officers have seen so much stuff it's impossible to trust anyone other than other police officers. My Grandpa was a police officer in a big city and eventually Homicide Detective. He was a nice cop but the Nice ones are usually depressed and it took him 3 drinks a day to get over what he saw. They alot have heard every single speeding excuse in a week. They are generally nice people I feel bad for them. The Nicer ones are usually in small towns. |

I treat people the way they treat me. If they are cool with me then I am cool with them. If they act like a fool then I treat them like a fool. I still have a job to do but attitude dictates how people are treated.............it's human nature.
Police are trustworthy. I trust the people I work with to keep me alive. |
