Why are so many young black and Latino men in prison?

A very good question.

1. The inherently racist laws since the founding of this country.
2. Ridiculous punishments for using/selling illegal drugs. If you research why most drugs because illegal in the first place it was because of racism.
3. Because of the large number of impoverished black communities the options for young minority men are limited.
4. Something must be said for the glamourized thug representation that is the main portrait of black men in the media and the history of latino machismo that sanctions violence. Not to say white men are so peaceful but they get away with things more since the judges and juries are usually white as well.

Tell me why the country needs someone (any race) that has commited a crime eg. rape, DUI, stalker. And its not like thay can't find a cure for AIDS in Prison. They might even want to find one after they contract it.

There are definitely many of them in prison. But the white prisoners way outnumber them.

Poverty breeds crime. An unbalanced amount of Latin and African Americans are poor, and commit crime.

HOPE of a FUTURE is what ALL Americans need. I am conservative and believe that we cannot make everyone "equal", but we have to be fair with everyone.

It is our governments role to ensure equality of opportunity, NOT equality of outcome.

Criminals of any race, rarely think about anyone other than themselves. Criminals are not interested in the good of others or even the true good of themselves. Many of the youth of today are getting caught up in the "glamorous life" and want to get at it by any means necessary. As a society, we must be willing to mentor the youth of today as they will be lost if not guided down the right path.

Does the country really need them? No. It's called economic status. African-Americans and Latinos tend to be on the lower end of the income bracket. A lot are unemployed, or working low wage jobs. The illegal drug trade promises a huge demand and high priced goods mean a lot of money; money they would otherwise never get. But with many things illegal, you get caught.
