Why are there so many black people in jail?

it's probably due to the way they were raised..
certain races tend to go to jail more often
since their parents, or the people living in their community
don't stress on morals or punish them for what they did wrong
when they were little

asian parents are hecka strict..
and i guess that is why there are less of them in jail

Probably has a lot to do with the population of blacks in the state or area. There aren't many African Americans in my area, so most of the jail population consists of white people. I'm actually having a really hard time trying to remember the last time I arrested someone that wasn't white.

there is a great misconception about so many blacks in jail.in one major jails in texas it has 7000 inmates housed.the ratios are about even. the only differences fall within the female population. in the prison system there is more black males but the percentage is still very close

welfare give people free money ... jail gives free health care, food, rent, tv and telephone calls. and some meet thier friends in jail ... like a big crook get to gether.

Here's an opinion for you:

The lower economic classes have a higher minority population than the higher economic classes (source ... minority activists that tell us this is true.).

People in lower economic classes have more unmet needs and wants than those in the wealthier groups.

People in higher economic classes have the means and opportunity to commit "safer" crimes (fraudulent expense reports, stock manipulation, etc).

While people in the lower economic classes are more likely to commit "face to face crimes" (Home invasion, robbery, etc), as they don't have expense accounts to manipulate (or for that matter, stock portfolios)!

Drug use is another big difference! The wealthy use drugs at about the same rate (number of users per 1,000 population) but get caught less often .... WHY?

The country club set are more likely to use drugs in a private residence, surrounded by private land, that the cops can't enter without a warrant. They are also more likely to have a "secure" delivery system.

Lower economic classes buy their drugs on the street, not too secure for a delivery system! They are also less likely to own property (too expensive), and use drugs in semi-public areas that are more open to law enforcement!

End result: More lower economic class people populate the jails and prisons! Take into account that the wealthy usually have great lawyers on retainer, and the poorer members of society usually depend on the office of the public defender ... and we are getting close to an answer!

Conclusion: Both the wealthy and the poor commit crimes, and at about the same rate ... but because the wealthy have better means and more opportunities to commit "safe" crimes, they are not busted at the same rate (poor go to jail and prison, rich go to country clubs and opera!). Take into account the vast difference in available legal talent (Office of the public defender vs. highly paid private lawyer) and we can see a real trend here.

It ain't because blacks commit MORE crime ... it's that the poor folks don't have the means or opportunity to commit "safe" crime!

In the newspaper today it mentioned this. It states that the Whites have the lowest % of Men/Women in the State Prisons. We need to find out why this is happening. Why is this happening to the Black race ??
