This does not make any sense to me. He was a loving man the article says. If he was such a loving man, why did he kill 4 police officers?

What's wrong with the suspect's family mourning his "murder"?...can't we be "two-sided" for once and start mourning with them instead of ONLY mourning with the Oakland PD/Alameda Sheriff hierarchy?...
Look at the officer-involved shooting in Pasadena last week;under orders from "racist" PD chief Bernie Melekian, the "suspect"'s family was forced(behind the scenes) to publicly PRAISE and thank the officer who fired the fatal shots into the guy's back while on the ground(or else be arrested for "felony obstruction of justice")!...
Now THAT'S sad, when the police force(Pasadena OR Oakland) THREATENS a family of a "suspect" into cowardice and praise for the officers involved...and yet YOU call for the family of that suspect to be permanently SHUNNED by all of society just for the actions of a family member!
SHAME ON YOU!...we need to see the other family grieve publicly too, but we DON'T need to criticize them for doing so! |

Funerals are for the living, not the dead. While I thought it kind of bad form to have such a large gathering so close on the heels of the officers' memorial, the man's family has the right to mourn just as anyone else does. |

well the article says it the family was grieving for his death, so it's pretty obvious why. that doesn't mean that it was correct for him to shoot four guys but it just mean that his family is sad for what happen. |

What makes you think that ONLY the dead Oakland PD officials deserve ANY sympathy from us(a grateful Alameda County and State of CA), and the famliy of the "suspect" deserves extreme SCORN and HATRED(and public shunning for the rest of their lives!)...you are STUPID for having that attitude!...
The families of suspects killed by law enforcement don't deserve such HARSH treatment from folks like YOU!...you think like an Amish elder:one minor/major screw-up, and you're BANNED from public life forever!...is this what YOU want to happen to that family?...

Families have every LEGAL right in the state/US to publicly mourn their member's death at the hands of brutal cops!...so THERE!
If any member of MY family was killed by a "trigger-happy" cop, then my family and friends have every right to mourn in public(w/ media presence and all!), and I will NOT be forcibly shunned by the public by people like you who insist that "out of sight, out of mind--FOREVER!" is the mandate as ordered by the police department!...and folks like YOU!

There has to be a time and place for the family of one who was killed by law enforcement to publicly mourn, and it should be in the public's eye EVERY DAY to remind all of us that cops can grieve too:not just for killing the "suspect", but putting a quick end to a life of crime needlessly!...
Remember, cops are just as human as the person they kill...so stop the hyper-criticism of the "suspect"'s family for doing what they did!...
You owe them an apology NOW!...
Trust me, if you were in Acting PD Chief Howard Carter's shoes, I'd attend the guy's funeral service, not on behalf of the Oakland PD, but as a public citizen to try to ease the raging anger toward the SWAT team, motorcycle patrols, and other allied agencies who took part in the incident!...and calm a community so used to cops killing inocent folks just for looking at them the wrong way!
