I don't understand your question. He respected your rights and saw that his "tough talk" would not convince you to give up those rights. So he ended it.
What was he supposed to do, beat you up?

By the by I have done the same thing many times before I was the police, not allowing a search on principle, but I did not have to satisfy myself by whipping out my ACLU membership card or writing about it. Yes I was a member all during and before my police career.

He was just following the law, he could have serached it without your permission if you commiting a crime or there was something really suspicous going on (blood coming out of the trunk, someone banging from the inside, stench of ether or other drug items, smoke, other such obvious issues). He was obviously just cruzin and trying to roll the dice and pick you up since you "looked" guilty.

He walked away because he knew he had no legal right to search your trunk. He can ask, but once you refuse he knows he can't search it without a warrant (unless, of course he's arresting you for something and has a valid reason to search.) The porky pig comment was a little childish, don't you think?

By the way, it showed a lot of self-restraint on his part to keep his mouth shut after you showed him your ACLU card. Thanks to people like you, we have a hell of a time keeping bad guys in jail.

He does not need a warrant to search your vehicle, your house or your person. The only thing he needs is Probable Cause, it's obvious he didn't have that otherwise you'd be sitting in jail and not on Yahoo. You can whip out that card all you like, one of these days the officer will laugh at you while he's cuffing you because you thought a piece of paper is gonna save your a$$. Good luck with that bud.

The ACLU card had nothing to do with it; He was following the law. He COULD have detained you there, and called for a K-9 unit, and if the dog "ALERTED" to your vehicle, he could have searched it without your permission . He chose not to do that.
