Why didn't this hotel call the cops?
|
I recently stayed at a hotel. There was a group staying there. It was a group of fifty teenage basketball players. They were very rowdy. Running through the halls, yelling, talking loudly, etc all night long. Their chaperones seemed to be nowhere around. I called the front desk and they said that there is no way they can toss out a group that has 18 rooms. They didn't do squat. They wouldn't call the cops. Additional Details If I called the cops couldn't the hotel staff just tell them they aren't needed?

You can refuse to pay the hotel stating that due to the noise you could not sleep and that the hotel refused to take action.
You could also tell them that you intend to sue them as by not helping you get the peace and quiet you PAID for, you didn't get the service you were promised --
Which led you to be irritable and sleepy and hence caused you to do badly at work, fall asleep at the wheel, mess up a deal etc etc,
Should be fun. |

Since you were staying there, you had the right to call the police yourself. The hotel is not required to call, but you can. They would have spoken to whoever was in charge of the teenagers, and encouraged the adults to control the rowdiness. The behavior would be considered "disorderly." I'm pretty sure that the adults would not have liked the police coming out. |

They are under no obligation to call the cops. The better question is, why didn't you call? You have just as much a right as the hotel staff. |

1) DId you get a refund? Always ask for a refund or a discount, especially if the hotel didn't do anything.
2) Did you attempt to find their chaperones? Did you ask them to quiet down?
3) If the hotel didn't call the police, you could have. However, they were teenagers. Teenagers are going to act like teenagers no matter how much they annoy you.
If I were you, I would not go to that hotel anymore. That's it. There's no use worrying about it anymore. |

Why didn't you call the cops yourself? I don't think that the hotel staff could tell them that they weren't needed until they checked with the guest who called them, cause what if someone were actually in trouble and the people at the front desk didn't know and send the cops or whoever away? |

You should have called or asked the hotel to refund your money and went elsewhere. Majority rules. |

since they wouldn't settle the problem, you should have asked for a way to contact the manager, or someoene higher in the company. You might have been able to get a free night or something out of your trouble. |

when you pay to stay in a hotel that hotel is under obligation to ensure your stay is as pleasant as possible-and this includes a peacefull nights sleep-you have paid for this previledge. they did not have to call the police-this is at the managers discretion. but by the same token you paid your money as well. the way you were treated was unacceptable-the rowdy crowd should have been told to pipe down or leave-there are other guests they have to take into consideration as well. where was the security staff? i have a hotel near me and beleive me a fly can't fart in there without those boys being aware (and ready to deal with it) of it. i would write a letter of complaint to the hotels head office-go straight to the top explain what happened and you do not feel it was dealt with in a proffessional manner. send a copy to the hotels manager and decide what you want to do about it (do you want a refund-part refund-letter of apology etc). but make a fuss about it-i would. as soon as word got round that the manager turfed out the idiots the decent customers would start to flood back because they know any situation in that hotel will be dealt with quickly and efficiently -they wouldn't lose money for long. |

I understand that this situation is frustrating. Unfortunatley when you stay in a hotel.. its a risk you take. Your neighbors might settle down at eight.. or roam the halls, talk loudly, and annoy you. Im sure that the front desk staff did their best. Teenage boys dont neccessarily understand how loud they truly are being. A call to the cops was not neccessary. Nothing illegal was taking place on the premises. Next time ask them if they can move you to a different floor or wing... and just dont stay there again. Oh.. and asking for a discount..? Um no. You cant ask your landlord for a discount because the guy above you tap dances all night. Dont be a sue happy freak like some others are recommending. Defiently tell that hotel to shove it and that they lost your business but their is no reason to make such a big deal out of it. Grow up! |

the hotel should have refunded you at least part of your money. after all, YOU paid them for a good night's sleep, not an all night party, call back and ask to speak to the manager and ask for some kind of a refund. |

Why didn't they call the cops? Well as a Front Desk agent a t a hotel I can tell you it comes down to simpel economics. The group had 18 rooms, you had one. Which would it cost them more to keep happy, the group of 18 or you? |

If the basketball team comes there regularly for their away games in that city...they want to keep their business..they aren't gonna call the cops for other random people staying at the hotel.
It's all about the money. |

They didn't call the police for the obvious reason of money. I agree with the other answers. You have the right to call the police yourself even if the hotel won't. The hotel can not stop the police from acting on a complaint either. I would write a letter to the hotel and complain. You may get your money back. It's no consolation for a night of lost sleep and frustration but at this point it's better than nothing. I also make it a point to tell others exactly which hotel / restaurant / store etc... has provided poor service. Not only does it help out other innocent consumers but it sends a message to the management that if they do not provide good customer service they run the risk of being publicly badmouthed and blackballed. |

They arent going to call the cops cause then they loose money. Plus if any damages are done they could easily sue them for more money.
You should have called the cops. The cops would have came on up to the room or floor cause they have to check things out they can't just take the front desk's word for it. |

When you weigh the income figures, 18 rooms are a hell of a lot more profitable then your one. They aren't going to call the police on their money makers. As for calling the police yourself it wouldn't have done any good, the front desk would have sent them away. |
