Why do Cops like Doughnuts so much?

Not all of them do - it's a stereotype. Not all people of Asian descent are good at math, not all African-Americans are athletic, and not all firemen are pyromaniacs.

That being said, the reasons the cops that DO like doughnuts eat them are because:
Doughnut shops open early in the morning when a lot of places are closed
They usually sell coffee, which is a pretty important part of a lot of cops' lives as it helps keep them awake and alert
Doughnuts are easy to eat - you don't need a knife and fork
If you put one down, it doesn't get cold and disgusting - you can come back to it later if you're interrupted

I think the reason cops are associated with donuts so much is because donut chops are usually open very early in the morning and a donut is a quick snack to grab while an officer is on duty

That is a stupid myth that just never seems to die. The simple fact is, police officers, just like everybody else, need a break once in a while. In many cities the only place open for a quick coffee or snack where a couple of squad cars could park, and the officers sit together (in between calls, of course) was a doughnut shop.
For some reason, nobody ever asked why taxi drivers like doughnuts, or gang members, or juvenile delinquents, or shift workers going home from work, or people going home from a late movie, or anybody else who may be on the streets at night.

Yes, as the good SGT above me said, stop beating that horse. Its old. No, we don't all eat them, but if we do, WHO CARES?

Such a typical stereotype, coming from someone who obviously doesn't have a clue about law enforcement.

Back in the days when cafes and diners would close early, the only places selling food that were open beyond midnight would be coffee houses, serving donuts. LEO's would need to eat and would therefore stop at said coffee house for a snack.

It's nothing to do with the fact that we're lazy, as some TV shows seem to portray.

Many cops are overweight and depressed. Doughnuts are full of sugar and create endorphins in the brain. Endorphins make them happy for a brief period of time. This is a vicious cycle, since the unhealthy doughnuts cause the cops to become even more overweight and more depressed, causing them to eat more doughnuts. This is why cops like doughnuts so much.
