Why do Gypsies and travellers get such a bad reception from people?

My only experience is when some set up on a bit of common land and when they left 4 weeks later it was covered in rubbish, hardcore etc.

So the council tax payers had to foot the bill to clean it up.

Don't pay taxes, intimidate people, move on to other people's private land and are sometimes involved in criminal activities

they dont pay rates yet they expect there children to go to school .they leave there camp sites like a bomb gone off and the council got to foot the bill
they camp on council land and pay no rent .
they pay no national health insurance but expect to receive hospital treatment when they ill.
and ifs property not nailed down they think they a right to take it.
they stop people who pay rates from using the land they camped on.
they have no reqard for law and order.

Because they steal, occupy land that is not theirs, lie, intimidate, and behave like animals, so who in their right mind would give them a good reception??

I always had a soft spot for gypsies and got annoyed if anyone spoke ill of them, saying that their lifestyle was their choice (at this stage I just thought they travelled, I didn't know about the rest of it) UNTIL I had personal experiences of them, every one of them has lived up to every awful stereoype of them and worse.

Oh, and they treat their animals horrendously.

I would love to see an exception of the rule, but as of now I have not.

Proper gypsies are ok,it's the troggs that live on these sites that aren't worth a shi'te.When they move on they leave all their crap behind,and rob and thieve at every opportunity.

Because some of them vandalise the countryside by carrying out illegal trade on ground they are not paying anything for, they pester nearby neighbours for water, goods and money. They don't pay any rates and the same probably applies to TV licenses.A crime wave follows them around.
This is why in the East of England consultation document permanent residents were not permitted to cite crime as one of the reasons for not accepting sites in their area, nor could they insert the number 0 in the number of sites they thought practical. The number had to be between 1 and 5.
It was a typical slanted consultation document originated by the Labour party

Any cultural group or nationality that separates them selves completely from the norm alienates themselves with others. The Rom do not associate with the rest of whatever culture they are traveling through. Their children are not allowed to get public education, their language is kept secret. their social values, such as how they deal with people how are not of them are just plain uncomfortable and unjust to those outside.
Rom, Irish Travelers, whatever secret grouping, by heritage, genes or choice, are not trusted by others. This is especially true when the groups feel that they can morally scam and cheat those outside and that they are legitimate targets.

It is a misconception that all gypsies are trouble. Some are, and some aren't, just like any other culture! People say they are bad and full of trouble, when, in actual fact, not all of them are. Every society, whether gypsies or not has problems. Every culture and social group have good and bad people. The mess that they leave behind is a result of not being able to ge their rubbish collected like other people, because councils don't provide for that, so it is unfair to say that they are messy and leave their rubbish behind, when they can't do anything about it anyway. In regards to how some of them behave (i.e aggressive), what do you expect, when they have spent most of their lives having to put up with abuse from people who are no better or worse than them? My local area has a lot of travelling families in it, although they don't have mobile homes because the government try not to let them live how they want, and the majority of them are okay, although there are a minority who really aren't very good people, but as I said already, this happens everywhere, whether gypsy or not.

Because people are ignorant which was shown in the post where the person said most travelers turn to crime. The reason is because people don't trust outsiders.
Just look at the movie Easy Rider that is really a good movie. I hitch-hiked across country and traveled with the grateful dead for many years, and I can say I was illegally incarcerated for my appearance, and looked upon harshly by certain people in some towns and counties.
Not every county is like that but Utah is a bad place to be a traveler in.

I love how people compare real world issues with TV... Shows their intelligence level... As a bail bondsman in Fort Smith, Arkansas, we deal with a lot of Gypsies on a regular basis... Their sole source of income is derived by travelling the country pulling construction scams, normally related to asphalt, roofing, siding, and general home repair... They pray on older people and use extensive methods of intimidation to extract money from them... They also never show up to court when caught for an offense... This is first hand information from someone who has observed a large Gypsy community in Spiro, Oklahoma extensively...

guess what all gypsy's arent scam's some are some are not and most gypsy's own house's and rent house's back east gypsy's are very bad does are the one's you watch i am a gypsy i shoud know trust me it's not what you think dont get me wrong they scam they rob but look at this how meny wite men you haird rabe littel baby's new borns and killed ppl's mother's and father's now BUT YOU NEVER HAIR THAT ABOUT A GYPSY so is what im trying to say ppl make the good gypsy's look like sh*t so yeah .......

I live in spiro and never have met you Chris yes I own a paving business and I don't scam no one and never have even been arrested just remember there are bad and good in everything there are bad gypsy as you call us but there are a lot of good hard working ones
