Why do bankers get big bonuses but street robbers get put into prison?

Street robbers aren't golf buddies with the judges and politicians - the bankers are.

Apart from lending too much money, the bankers didn't do anything wrong.

Many Bankers work long hours and work in a very stressful environment. Whilst I don't agree with bonuses for banks taken in to state ownership, I do not see why people single bankers out, when there are so many other sectors of society who are over paid.

I don't see people talking about putting all real estate agents in prison for their part in keeping house prices artificially high, nor do I see people up in arms about Lawyers and their exorbitant charges and pay packets or accountants, debt companies or financial advisers and those in the insurance industry.

Sports stars, entertainers (TV, film, music etc) as well as a host of other sectors earn massive amounts of money and nobody is demanding they have their pay cut.

The truth is the banking and financial sector is a critical part of most nations economies and to single out bankers is ignoring the credit driven economies Governments encouraged globally, so perhaps it is the politicians and financial regulators who should be doing the prison time rather than the bankers.

And that ransom is paid by us.

Good point. Why is it ok for the government to force me to give them more and more of my earnings, yet I could press charges or even shoot a street mugger for trying the same?

Muggers do not ask nicly for your mobile or money they use fear and intimidation and in some cases violance.

There are many forms of dishonesty used where it seems acceptable for people to gewt away with extortion call it what ever you like as on has alrady poited out estate agents and lets not forget our MPs and even ministers who play the game and use the rules to benfits themselves. We have the Balls Mps man and wife claim twice for the same second home in London, Ms Smith she lives with her sister when in London and claims for a second home now we have McNulty claiming for a second home that his is parents home and he lives less than 10 miles away from his perminant home. And all are said to be within the rules os claiming allowences. How can we call bankers when our MPs get away wioth ripping us off. They may not have broke the rules however there is lack of integraty and misuse of their position.

Why--well bank robbers use force, Bonus bailout babies were cronies, that earmarked BUSH BAILOUT money was given to, for a sorry job, well done.

Bankers did their job. Their employers thought they were doing a good job, so paid them lots of money.

Muggers attack people, taking their possessions, invariably causing fear and often causing injury. They create an atmosphere of fear.

I think that may be why.

Robbery is the implied or use of violence during a theft, when was the last time a banker used violence you plum!
