Why do cops always let rich people go with a warning but arrest poor people and beat them up.?

Your statement is untrue and smells like it comes from a personal bias. As a Law Enforcement Officer, I can tell you from experience that we don't care who the person is, if they deserve to be arrested or ticketed then that is what they are going to get.

I can also tell you that I don't care how much money a person has in the bank, if they try to attack me then I'm going to take care of the problem as best I can. I've never witnessed any officer "beat up" a person. I've seen plenty of people subdued when they were resisting arrest or fighting with the police but never have I seen any officer attack a citizen for no reason.

I know that there are police officers out there who abuse their power just like there are bad preachers, teachers, bankers, lawyers, and factory workers. People like you want to focus on the few bad things officers have done and ignore the thousands of good things the police do on a daily basis.

Since I took a rich person to jail last night, there goes your theory.

Oh, and I didn't beat anyone up.

Take your stereotyping elsewhere.

Not true.

You need to stop watching TMZ.............

Because that is how we earn our commission. The bounty on poor people is higher than on rich people. And besides only poor people committ crimes. And all cops are fat donut eating black people beaters. And everyone who lives in a trailer home is a beer swilling bigot. Everyone who lives in housing projects is a crack dealer.

very simple, it costs money to fight a case against a rich person who can afford a lawyer, and rich people also make police look bad as theyare often undertrained and do not follow procedure and a person withmoney can and will exploit that, while a poor person is almost guarenteed to be convicted-and make no mistake our prison system is a cash cow for the state, they make an enormous amount of tax dollar revenue from it, and to Gonzo you said people always want to attack the few bad things and ignore the many good things people do, well isnt tat what you do every day if your a police officer

Always?!?!?!?!? :-O

You must have done an extensive amount of research to be able to say such a generalization with such confidence.

actually, our dept. has a policy of asking if they are rich to see if they can afford to fight us in court. if they're poor, we know we have the go ahead. does that sound good to you? is that what you're looking for? the truth be known, i'll bet your big mouth got you in trouble, and this is your way of whinning about it. try growing up and being responsible for your actions. and, take the punishment you deserve.

That is totally untrue. I've seen plenty of rich people get more than a warning - and if you bothered to study up - you would know that.

What do you think - the cops ask you if you are rich or poor before writing a ticket ? That's not even reasonable. You're just carrying a grudge against L.E. And by the way - I've seen a lot of rich guys get their azzes stomped by the cops if they tried to run, or pull a weapon, or whatever. Your theory doesn't hold water.

I think that this question is a little bit twisted in the first place. Sometimes stereotypes are there for a reason, and the reason that Police Officers arrest middle class or poor people more is simply because there are more crimes being openly committed on those levels. Generally a wealthier person is not going to be a huge problem for the city because that person has already proven that they work hard and are not being disruptive to society. Now I didn't say that there aren't rich people who don't commit crimes or get away with them, but it is a money game for the city as well. Why waste all kinds of city money to fight something that is unfortunately not going to be resolved anyways? One more thing that I might add is that Police Officers do arrest rich people but the courts and attorneys is where these people usually get off, so make sure you know that Police are not always the ones to blame for certain crimes going unpunished........It's kinda like saying that our Border Patrol Agents always let illegal immigrants off........Its the system, not the officers.

What an incredibly rediculous question. As an officer who works in a well to do area, I can tell you I do not care what you drive, what race you are, how much money you have, or who you know........there is no reason the rich can be cited and arrested like anyone else. They cry more about it and write more letters to the city, but in the end, there is no difference. Don't let tv, the movies and the media make up your mind about how law enforcement works. Rarely do they get it right!

I've never heard of such actually happening.

well, i believe that's not the case, but bear in mind, there's bound to have black sheep in any organisation.

Because poor people don't have lawyers so the cops can beat them up all they want and usually get away with it.

I hear ya...What would be better if tickets and fines were based on a percentage of your income. So the rich, red, convertible Audi driver's ticket is like $1000.00 bucks:) But you can see the perks of being rich....it is privileged living...as foul and in just as it is
