Like the police officers that fired over 50 rounds into the car of Shawn Bell, They got away with murder. Or the two officers in Austin that shot and killed a suspect who was unarmed face down on the ground and 1 of them was cuffed. They only lost their job but faced no criminal charges. Its pretty messed up! |

Future LEO: I would like to point out an error in your information...where I live...the person arrested actually gets charged an 'administrative fee' by the municipality they were arrested in. This fee covers any officer overtime accrual, administrative (paperwork) fees and for use of the court during arraignment. This 'fee' usually averages about 300 dollars...for an overnight stay. So there technically aren't any major costs associated with an 'unnecessary arrest'...they're covered by the 'arrestee' regardless of whether they're found guilty or not.
Also, in the state I live in...if you receive jail time in county lockup, you're charged 60 dollars a day to be in jail. So a three-month jail stint will cost you roughly around 3600 dollars...the bill comes a month after you're released and it's due on receipt. So it's a myth that inmates receive 'free room and board" at the taxpayer's expense. We may pay for the operational costs of the building (jail), but each inmate is charged a daily rate for their stay. |

Trust me, police officers do ot get away with a lot of stuff. They may have authority, but if they compromise their authority they will suffer the consequences.
However, it's no different anywhere else. A restaurant can refuse to service you, but can provide service to someone who may be worse than you.
Life is not fair and unfortunately you, I, and everyone else have to deal with that. You are most likely just angry at the moment because you believed a police officer "wronged you."
99% of the time, if a cop gives a citation, ticket, or charges someone with a crime, then that person most likely deserved what they got.
But, nooooo, a lot of people refuse to take responsibility for their own actions and decide to blame the person who notices their wrongdoing.
But, a lot of times, a police officer will let someone off with a warning, because no cop WANTs to arrest people. To arrest someone, charge them, give them a trial, and then put them in jail/prison (possibly) costs way too much money for unnecessary arrests. That is why police officers are keepers of the peace and are more likely to calm down a situation then to arrest everyone that does an infraction.
So, before you go and start ranting that peace officers get away with a lot of things, look at WHAT you get away with. Police can't be everywhere at every moment, but they do the best they can so you can have those HUMAN RIGHTS you say you deserve. |
