Why do cops get to taser people for no reason?

You sound like a moron. Hate to tell you if you resist arrest a cop may give you a warning then they have every right to use a tazer on you. I know you are big and bad but hate to tell you when they shoot a tazer at you be ready to feel the voltage going through your body. As far as resisting arrest, do us all a favor, have someone video taping it for us so we can see you on Americas stupidest criminals. Look forward to watching you wriggle on the ground after they take you down.

You resist arrest you get tased. Simple as that. Maybe you would prefer the days BEFORE tasers; when you would just get beat down. It's safer for you and the officer. Takes the fight out of you and no one gets hurt..

A taser is preferable to a bullet. You get a taser and go after a cop and you will be dead, not stunned.

Oh, I know! Isn't it dreadful? Just the other day I saw cops at a city park tasering innocent people as they walked by just for kicks. One even sicced a police dog on an old lady, I'd say she was in her 90s, for laughs. Man did she ever scream!! Woo-hoo!!!! Then one cop saw a little three year old walk by and billie clubbed her till she was unconscious. HA! Let's see that little girl walk again! Oh, and then these school girls jogged by and two cops jumped into two squad cars and mowed them all down!!!! In broad daylight!!

Because there's ALWAYS a reason. For example, if that stupid woman the other day, or that student at the U of F (my alma mater) had shut their mouths and cooperated with the police, neither would have been tasered. If you think you have a right to resist arrest, I certainly won't be the one to try and talk you out of that stupid, misinformed, misguided notion. Personally, I'd rather have the cops use their side arms and simply shoot to kill dummys like the examples I mentioned.

The man resisted arrest. The cops are trained to take down, dogpile, and handle in a not so gentle way people who resist arrest. I know they had him down, but he had to get back up to be led out of the building. If he had started swinging, he would have been a danger to the cops, everyone around him, and ultimately himself as well. In wrestling him down, he risks broken bones or head injury. The taser was a relatively harmless but effective alternative to all these risks. The cops did a good thing.

I don't know what news you watch, but the two recent "taser events" I have seen recently were well-deserved.

If you don't want to be tasered - do what the hell the cops say!

And No - you DON'T have the "right" to resist arrest.

No cop anywhere in the US, "...gets to taser people for no reason." Maybe you just don't write well, but there's no "get to" in the taser equation - you make it sound like it's a right we have when you suggest that we "get to" taser people.

That said, any cop that used a taser inappropriately would run the risk of civil and/or criminal action being taken against him or her, so it's not like there's this free-for-all out there as you'd seem to prefer people believe.

It *is* cool to tase someone. It's way cooler than shooting them or permanently disabling them with some kind of impact weapon. Anytime I have to use force to get someone to comply with my directions, it's cool when I can use the least amount of force that will cause the least amount of pain and suffering in the long term - for all concerned. Way cool.

You're not going to let a cop taser you? Bully for you. Come back and tell us how that turns out for you once you've tried.

You do have every right to resist arrest, provided the arrest is unlawful. Wild guess: you wouldn't be the best judge of whether or not an arrest was lawful.

That is what is wrong with videos. They have tendency to leave out most of the pertinent information. I wouldn't recommend get a taser. It would be hazardous to your health.

Most police officers take their sworn statement to uphold the law and to "serve and protect" very seriously. Unfortunately, there are an abundance of people like you who do not appreciate how they put their lives on the line every time they come on shift.

Cops only taser people when they have tried other means of taking them down without success (usually because they resist arrest or are on drugs that make them become almost superhuman). People who are resisting arrest are a potential threat to the lives of not only the cops, but also the general public (which, my friend, would be you!)

Tasers are less of a threat on your life than a gun. Would you prefer the cops go around shooting people with their Glocks???

Additionally, in order to carry a taser, the police officer has to go through proper training (which usually has to be updated every few years) and they have to be tased. Yes, every police officer out there carrying a taser has been tased.

So just obey the law, don't try to fight a police officer or threaten their life, and you shouldn't have to worry about getting tased. It's pretty simple really!

To expand on what Dan W said about the Kerry rally. This guy had been going around to other political rallies doing the same thing. He totally deserved to be tased he was disturbing the peace!

Just like anything else in the police world we are governed by regulations and policy that prevents us from doing things "willy-nilly" as some people would believe.

If someone goes "a-taser'n" for no reason they aren't going to have a job for long.

With more than 5 million tasers on the streets in the hands of professional law enforcement officers the highly public use and video of a few should not be the yard stick used to measure the whole.

I believe we should think of outsourcing the COPS. All of them. Bring in private firms to replace them. They would be more customer service oriented.

i saw a young lad being attacked by 6 older thugs the other day,they were kicking his head, face and body.one of the animals rode his bike over him,how revolting!an asian male approx 35/40 tried to help him by taking his shoe off and hitting one of the thugs ,which worked because the all ran away,the police finally arrived after 45 minutes after the whole street phoned them on 999 .they were more interested in arresting the asian male that helped this boy,the man of course got irate,as he should,the police tasered him,i saw it i filmed it too as did alot of disgusted people,do you think they showed any interest in arresting and tasering the white youths that attacked the young lad,no, the police proved to alot of people that day they wanted to use that taser and seemed alot more happy 2 use it on an asian,hmmm i smell a whole lot of racism,what are we paying the police for?since found out cps brought no charges against the thugs but the asian man was charged with abh.luckily the judge saw through the police and found him not guilty she also said the police behaved terrible lol,
