It's true...they work very hard to protect us.....
but even after they dont get their desrving respect and faith from people....i guess it's becuase, many of them created very bad impression on abusing their power....so, people lost their faith on them and they think all the police community is like this......
as, they dont have any chance to personally judge each cop, they depend on rumours and past experiences to have an openion on cops.
it's really sad...... |

It is all in the personality. Some are cool while some are on ego trips abusing their powers. |

Its not a matter of liking them its a matter of trusting them |

One bad apple ruins the whole bunch. There are really good cops who are willing to help people at almost any cost, but those that have stolen, killed, ignored people who need help, etc. have given people a sour taste in their mouth for all law enforcement. |

i would respect them if they would obey the laws and not be hypocrites by breaking laws and getting away with it coz they are cops |

It's not a fact of liking the police , it is a matter of trust
Yes they are there to protect us , but is that what they are doing
They hound the car driver , while the real crooks do as they please
And most people feel that the police are unable or unwilling to do there job , which is to serve the people |

Because the public is becoming more aware of the corruption on the job. |

It's a shame, most officers joined for the right moral reasons but because the police force is ever more controlled as a political tool officers must achieve target to keep their jobs.
I dont agree with police fines because the role of the police is to enforce the law, not issue punishments, a fine is like being found guilty and punished at the discretion of an officer, not a court of law, as it should be. |

A lot of the `police` live in a different world to you and I.
The police should remember that they are there to `serve the public` not the other way round.
A lot of them are very ignorant in the way they speak to the public and the only police officers (constables) I found to be polite etc, were in Gibraltar (still have British Bobbies). |

I believe most people don't like cops cuz they think it's cool. The same people that talk junk about cops won't hesitate to call them if they needed them though. |

Speaking from personal experience I had my house burgled(insured new for old, no problem they can come again), the police took 5 days to turn up, I just wanted to get my claim sorted out. Yet if I commit a minor motoring offence they`re on you like a ton of bricks. The last policeman I saw walking down my road was a "peeler". |

Most people do not like cops because they are worse than most criminals! They are only interested in how much money they can extort from people and do nothing but protect their own interests. All this and many of them are trigger happy too. |

because more & more of them think they are somthing special & have attitude problems they look for the easy arest even if people are inocent |

I think that most people do like the police. The police haters are in the minority. |

I believe because they are the enforcers of a lot of stupid laws. Government is in fringing too much in our daily lives....making, what should be simple choices for adults, a matter of "the governments concern for our well being" and making laws to protect us from ourselves! This is a rouse and just a part of the law enforcement INDUSTRY to raise funds for the local and national government.
So now we have laws for not wearing seat belts, helmets, having too many flags on our property. It's all about control. If we as a people do not stop this, we will gradually be surrendering all our liberties. What happened to the thought that people need to be accountable for their own actions! And because police officers must "blindly" enforce many stupid laws, some dislike them. |

There are good ones out there who does their job superbly, but you also have the corrupt ones and those "badge heavy" ones who give a bad name to ALL police and sheriff's deputies. |

well,i tell why the police are hated because they get off with breaking the law, rember the cop who was doing 140 mph he got off.thats just 1 issue.yes they are there to protect us but they should also lead by example. |

Maybe resentment for getting caught. Maybe the difference in how law is applied. Have you ever seen a cop get a traffic ticket? The only charges that are brought are on the sever/embarrassing to the city crimes. So long as you have an unfairness some will resent it.
I've heard a lot of police and supporters use the argument that if a person has nothing to hide why do they worry. Yet most police unions fight the right for the public to have access to misconduct reports on them. Does that mean somethings being hid?
I do feel that most people caught have done something wrong. There is a need for police. Yet I don't believe there is full disclosure of misconduct and I don't see that the law is applied evenly.
The soldiers in the Iraq prison scandal were correction officers in the states. Did their misconduct start in Iraq? |

Most people don't like being told they are wrong and then getting a fine on top if it. |

Because the system is to protect property over person. For example you would get in more trouble for robbing a bank than abusing children. Also corruption is high within the police force and a lot are working to there own agenda. The legal system is a shambles as paris hilton has shown its not what you know but who you know. Also having large amounts of cash seem to help. Also people can see the double standards in the local communitys some people seem to be at the centre of all the crime and never get convicted of a crime they seem to focus there attensions on low level crime kids and poor people. While the most serious crimes are covered up and go unreported.I dont think there to protect us i think they are there to protect the system and power |

i only hate them because there were times when the police discriminated people. for example black people in the 80s. i also hate them because the take too long to arrive and sometimes they dont bother to come. |

how very naive a controlling nature is a required quality
in a cop they can chose who to control |

A lot of people talk very loudly, but squeal like rabbits for the police as soon as they get in trouble. |

1.The Head of the London MET police stated publicly that they are institutionally racist and homophobic.
2. Last week, it was found out that one MET police officer a month was charged for drunk driving (and they must have caused an accident or their pals 'on the square 'would have let them off!)). Many were fined for speeding off duty. Speeding on duty is condoned.
3. The Police Federation recently stated that the police arrested people for things such as throwing a slice of cucumber in order to meet targets.
4. DWB is still an offence in England. (Driving while black).
5. Steven Lawrence. Damilola Taylor. (sp?)

I was never a police officer but I did work with them for several years. They are a different breed and most eventually become corrupted by their authority. As an example, virtually all of them carry a drop gun to use in the event they need to protect themselves from charges when they shoot an unarmed civilian. The drop guns they carry were obtained illegally in most cases because they cannot be linked legally to the officer when he needs to use it. Also, when they are together they talk about you, me and other citizens as perps, etc. not as people demonstrating their elitist attitude. There is also the code of silence when a fellow officer does something illegal - they will not tell the truth and will protect him in every way possible. |

Don't you believe that. Just because they are a ( police officer ) don't mean to trust them. There maybe a cop or ewo out there that are good, but there are more of them that are working for themselves. If it isn't the money then it's the power they like. I have been down on my knees, paying a speeding ticket, i don't trust NO ONE but me and God.
You must not be very old. They are there to protect themselves and their families. |
