There are few things more dreadful than dealing with a man who knows he is going under, in his own eyes, and in the eyes of others. Nothing can help that man. What is left of that man flees from what is left of human attention.

They are trying to get some sympathy and yes, as stated above, appear innocent. People are more likely to cry if they are guilty, in my opinion, because there's that chance of them getting locked up or being punished in another way for what they did "wrong." |

Because they are under a lot of stress. For whatever reason, whether they are guilty or not, they are being questioned by the law enforcement. It is a serious thing. It doesn't necessarily mean if they are guilty though. |

Probably because they are nervous and are fearful of authority persons who might judge them harshly. |

stress. plain and simple. no control over situations causes stress. Police generally bully the weak. Police get shot by the fearless. |

1. Fear
2. Stress
3. Upset because you are in trouble.
4. Feelings of powerlessness
5. Thoughts of the punishment... for example, a ticket = your car insurance skyrockets for 3 years. |

Fear of being sent to jail. |

it's because they are under stress.. whether they are innocent or not.. and the ones who are not innocent are probably less likely to cry.. unless they are using it to try and get sympathy.. more common in females than males |

A lot of things make people cry. Guilt or shame is a possibility. Sometimes people are relieved to finally get something off their chest and cry from the relief. Some people cry because they are frustrated or angry (perhaps because they feel falsely accused. I am a police officer. If I interviewed a person and they began to cry, I know it could mean a lot of things other than guilt. |

Because the police usually threaten to hit them with the stun gun or torture them if they don't talk.
They are threatened to be put in prison, killed, tortured, or fined, or have their kids taken from the police.
If the cops do this to you you will probably cry too. |

Because they feel nervous. They believe that if they say anything wrong or something that will incriminate the bad guy, the guy will come after them. |

It doesn't necessarily mean they are guilty.. Maybe people just feel shame for being pulled over |

lol..
it can be several diffent reasons!
nervous, scared, soemthing to hide,
but proly majority of the time people think they can get out of a ticket or trouble if they cry! Like officers dont know what these people are trying to do..lol
My hubby is a cop and he had a girl the other day that was crying when he pulled her over! He did let her go with a verbal warnin cause she was prego. and he didnt want to upset her anymore than she already was! |

It's a result from the "fight or flight" reaction still embedded in many people. Their ethics tell them fighting would not be a wise decision and driving/running off would not work either. Therefore adrenaline gives way to anxiety, which causes the uncontrollable reaction. It's not that they're guilty, depressed, or trying to get out of trouble (though, of course, for some it is and they're just hoping on playing the cop's emotions to get out of a ticket/trip to court and jail), for some people it's just a thing their body does no matter how calm they actually are. |

I beleive it is the intimidation the person feels about the officer in a uniform questioning that person which causes crying in many cases. |
