Why do people hate cops so much?

Its not just cops its anyone in law enforcement. They hate me too, Im a correctional officer. We take the jobs that no one wants, and risk our lives every day. We go to work not knowing if thats the last time we will walk out of that door. And yes some are idiots but not all. We are just doing our jobs people so you and your famlies can sleep at night.

It's because people some people just don't trust authority. Baisically cops are seen (by the ones that hate cops) as people that go around nagging them to stay in line and enforce the rules. Not listening to authority is "fun", it is lke "forbbiden fruit". Some people still think like children, as soon as you say "don't touch this", they have their greasy little fingers all over it.

This of course does not apply to everyone :)

Other people realize that you are looking out for their well being and know that their are laws for a reason.

That's lame. I don't hate cops. I'm not a big fan of certain laws that cops have to enforce, but I don't hold it against the cops.

Its only the law-breaking criminals who hate us. Most people appreciate what we do on a daily basis for them.

Most of the time its because they have been arrested in the past. Most of the people that get arrested often have the attitude that they are doing nothing wrong, or that we should be busting the bigger law breakers,etc, etc,etc. The fact is they were doing something wrong, and they got busted for it. Most of these negative commentors refuse to take responsibility for their own actions. Most of them try to minimize their wrong doing by saying "it was only 5 miles over the speed limit", or "I only took 1 hit off the joint", etc. They refuse to believe they were doing anything wrong. God forbid if you ever use their logic on them. They would say you were harassing them, or trying to meet a quota. Don't feel bad for enforcing the laws, keep your head up and do the right thing, even when no one is looking.

They are nothing more than shallow people that hate Police Officers for some stupid reason or perceived slant that is important only to them.

Notice how they view ALL Officers as corrupt, lazy, stupid and on and on. They're just like racists, only they hate Blue People.

Because they must have had first hand experience with the police....

Perhaps they were burglarized and the cops did nothing...As usual..

Perhaps they had been a victim of harassment by them....

Because the way the law runs today, cops don't care about an average person. I was arrested once for just being someplace when a very small fight broke out. The cops could easily see that I had nothing to do with it. They asked me to just come down to the station and fill out a report. Then as I'm leaving they tell me I was arrested. They never read me any rights or anything. Even everyone around said I didn't do anything, but I ended up having to go to court and either plead guilty and get off with a small court supervision, court costs, and blemish on my record or pay a lawyer at least a thousand dollars to just have a chance at a not guilty decision. I ended up plea bargaining with guilty just because I didn't have that kind of money and just wanted it over with. The thing is though, I'm not guilty of anything and if it weren't for the cops being lazy in the first place I would have never been in that situation.

I was an upstanding citizen with no criminal records and had never done anything to get arrested for. I was just in the mall minding my own business when this happened. When the cops arrived I was even just trying to help. Next time I'm not telling the cops anything, or I'll just leave. I had respect for cops until that day in 2001. Now I'll never cooperate in any way.

You might be a good cop, but it is also up to you to make sure your coworkers are also doing a quality job. Listen for stories they tell you and say something if you feel like they went too far.

Most of the time, cops are there only to write you tickets and hand out fines.

Because many of them are little more than black booted thugs who get their jollys by abusing their power and enforcing laws that demean the spirit of justice. Most of them are sociopaths who would be on the other side of the bars if they hadn't picked up the gun and badge.

Most cops are cool especially the ones that go after those hard core criminals. What bothers me about a small percent of cops is that they twist the laws to favor their benefit, because in most case's they have a quota to meet and or they become racist.

Some people just resent the fact that they cannot properly parent their children so we have to step in for them and take care of business for them.

Because cops are critical I know they are doing there jobs but with children and animals if you want them to behave a certain way you don't beat them into submission you reward good behavior. I have never ahd a cop pull me over and say you used your turn signal thanks or I just stopped you to say I have been following you and you really are a great defensive driver. If this actually happened there reputaion would change but they never notice the good and blow most little things turn signals +5 speeding way out of proportion.

Most people who don't like cops are criminals. Figure it out. Although there ARE a few bad cops out there who get away with bad things because they ARE cops. I've seen it.

I don't HATE cops per se, but I think they should give out more speeding ticket warnings. Everyday, I see this one cop at the end of the road I work on, he sits there trying to nail people for running a stop sign. Every DAY he does this. Yes he nailed me for it... But I still don't think its right.

Some people have just cause, like being harassed for nothing, the corruption which goes on with some cops, the way they break the very laws they are suppose to enforce, like obeying traffic regs. when they are not on emergencies. Need any more reasons?

Because they are never around when you need them. and the only seem to bust people that are the easy targets. Oh yes, and every thing the do has to be a money generator for the general funds of their municipalities and their own pension funds. THERE!

You're an explorer, so you are a minor. You will not be exposed to the actual reality of what police do to citizens, and what keeps the ACLU alive.

People hate cops not because they're crooks or were arrested in the past and resent it, but when they needed the assistance from a cop, their rights were violated and nobody cared. It is a concept that has now come back to hunt them in society.

But beware, friend. Citizens are arming themselves with video cameras and given a few more decades, police brutality may be a thing of the past.

Sandbaby you have NO CLUE of a job that others do not want or risking your life. You are describing my job more than yours. You might recall that you have to turn a key and let a prisoner out before he will kick your butt. Now as to the hatred it is because the cops that we run into in our area are arrogant, ignorant, and assinine. They are corrupt, immoral, and have no accountability for their destruction of peoples lives. They lie, beg, and steal. That is why we despise these dopes. Ever see a cop get busted and cry that he may be sent to a place where people will recognize him? I have!

I don't hate cops as long as they do quality work. I hate the cops that think they are above the law that think that they have more rights than the people that they serve. I hate it when a law enforcement person thinks that they are extraordinary people just because they are a cop. I don't mind letter of the law cops as long as they live by it as well. I think that cops that give back to the community that they serve are great role modules to the kids. I do think that 98% of that cops out there do mean well but that 2% should just find a new gig in life.

Oh and lets not get delusional here you are NOT I repeat you are NOT risking your life for me. No police person out there is risking thier life for me. They are risking it for themsleves and their own family. I hate it when a cops starts to whine about how that risk their lives everyday. You don't like your job quit enough said about risking your life. That is such a bunch of ____.

Because of the numerous cases of police brutality and cases where police murder people AFTER they have them cuffed... excessive force -Uva Uvam Vivendo Varia Fit: you join the group, you are just as bad as they are... if you become a police officer willingly, you are just as guilty of killing the people that your less honest peers are in the eyes of the people... As soon as you step out of the line of what is necessary to uphold the law, you are a civilian, and excessive beating, and deaths from excessive beatings are then assault and murder. However, in the United States, police officers are not held to the same laws, they just get desk duty until the incident blows over.

pappld04 you are sadly mistaken. Im also a correctional officer and I need turn no key to be assulted. I man a unit of close to 150 inmates (alone) who are all out of their cells most of the day. Im behind no lock door and in fact my peers are locked out and im locked in. I have no gun, no pepper spray, no baton. All we COs have is a radio and the hope that our coworkers run quick. No I dont work at a minimal secruity prison these guys are in for murder, rape, child molestation, you name it they've done it. Plus 100% of the guys we are locked in with are that 1% most people hope they never meet. Tell me we dont risk our lives, please, educate your self before you rant about something you dont know anything about. And tjmarsh1015 I guess soliders are'nt risking their lives for you either. For the record I was also a vetrean of Operation Iraqi Freedom. An Infantryman no less so I was on the front line not on some FOB safe and sound. although my motives were yes to me and my family you benifited as well as all americans. So yes I risked my life then as I do now (for you) every time I go in to work. I dont hate it so why quit? Just because it's dangerous does'nt mean I back down. Get over your self or GTFO.
