Why do people have a go when court speeding?

confucious says

you may not be eligible for a roadside fine because you have 9 or more points on your licence.
you may have been exceeding 100mph and that also cannot be dealt with by a road side fine
you may have been so much over the limit that a roadside ticket cannot be given ie 60mph in a 30mph limit
and also one that alot of people dont know about two speeding tickets at once for the same offence you are travelling on the motorway and going through road works and there is a temporary speed limit of 50.mph and you were travelling at 75 or above you break two laws one for the 50 mph and also the national speed limit so you get two tickets.
plus also you may wish to contest the case.
all the above are reasons why people go to court for speeding

Do you mean, "why do people have to go to court when speeding?".
Many times you don't have to go to court if you don't want to. You can just pay the fine and plead, not guilty, guilty or nothing.
The only time you have to go to court is when you don't believe that you deserve the ticket.

If they contest the ticket, I know that they have to go and talk to the judge.

I suppose they think that attack is the best form of defence. Don't know why because if they've been caught then there is evidence to prove it.

One more layer of discomfort to help discourage people from speeding.

Plus sometimes they will reduce the sentence or give you driving school.

that's what other folks think you meant too, so i am going with it
:)

typically theses would be the answers:

* many tickets just give you the option to pay. so you just pay it and don't go to court. BUT if you disagree with the ticket and want to fight it (appeal), then you go to court and let the judge listen to your story
the judge may lessen the charge or the fee
OR the judge may not

* some countries have laws that say that if you are speeding by quite a bit then it's an automatic court appearance

* if you were charged with speeding and wreckless driving or endangerment then that could get you a court appearance as well

* or if you have a bad driving record, then the courts might have to get involved as well

It depends what the speed was and how many points are already on your licence and if you are contesting the ticket

You don't have to, you can just pay it or hire an attorney to fix it!!

they don't HAVE to....they just have an option to if they want to protest the ticket.

However sometimes if you're speeding over a certain amount above the limit...like say 30mph over the limit, you can get ticked for reckless driving and might have to go to court.

I read it as why do peoplehave a go when caught speeding.
I don`t know, they foregt the amount of times when they have not been caught.
Also some think they are too good to get caught.

Because you broke the law and you need to plead guilty or innocent.

It's the law. Break the law then pay the price. You might be able to just pay a fine but if you want to contest it then you have to go to court. I haven't gotten a speeding ticket in years and never in the state of Massachusetts.

I got a ticket in Mississippi back when I was in college.
