Why do people keep critising the police, two officers have recently laid down their lives to protect us?

is it just criminals and disgruntled motorists who carp on

Realist
It's people like that sodding 'Me' above who annoy me, though she sounds American, you can always tell. Their police are armed ours are not. Would she like to break the news to the wife and kids, that her husband, and kiddies father, has just been shot down in cold blood by a yampy gunman. These arseholes make me puke my gut up. These whingers would be first first in the queue to complain of some triviality or other, then start gobbing nothing was being done. Then as 'Me' states file a 'citizens complaint' anyone know what that is outside U.S? Don't put your police on the same plate as ours. If you needed help, which police force would you prefer to go to? The British of course. Not perfect but by far the best.
WELL SAID LITTLE WEED
Edit: I think the questioner is on about British police, why do these yanks keep butting in? we are not interested in their police.

Yes - criminals, disgruntled motorists, and people who don't want to be held responsible for their actions.
It's easier to critcize the officers enforcing the law than it is to obey the law.

Sigh....After a 12 hour shift, and a 24hr on call, I log on to Y!A to see this........

Samuel Pepys, my deepest condolences to the fallen officers' families.

A wonderful person name Snazzlefrazz, has a memorial blog that honor fallen officers. She is not a singular person with this sentiment. There are MANY folks out there that appreciate what police officers do and are sadden by the tragic news.

You'll find the thanks and honor you are seeking here:

My respect and appreciation to all Law Enforcement personnel, from support staffs to field officers. Kudos!

For those who try to say that most police officers are bad, my response is that "ALL criminals are bad". The reality is that no matter what occupation you have, there will be a few bad apples in the group. Unfortunately, for police officers, once there is one bad apple, everyone assumes the entire force is corrupt. It's sad.

I cannot imagine WANTING to do a job that puts you in danger on a daily basis, forces you to see things most people can't imagine, and then must deal with such a huge amount of disrespect daily as well. And yet, my husband and many other men & women, wake up every day give their family a kiss (possibly their last one) and go out their to protect society. If that isn't a hero, I don't know what is!

njspanteach
People, by nature, do not want to be held accountable. Somehow they feel they are above the law.

Mr. T
A majority of people like the police. Don't be fooled by the illusion that Y!A is full of cop-hating folks. There are only less than a handful. The rest are trolls and fakes.

No I don't criticise the police. I criticise the powers that be that control them for not letting them do their job properly,by tying them up with rules and paperwork and by not having enough of them There need to be dozens of them on the streets of our towns every night. Not in cars but walking.. There can be fast response mobile teams as well. If it means an extra 200000 police to get this country free of murder, mugging, robbery and crime,so be it. And have space for a million criminals to serve their full life sentences. We don't want defaulters or criminals in our community thank you. If you offend you go out of the way.. good riddance.

My daughter is a police officer and she worked three, 12 hour shifts earlier this week when the area was flooded. She and her colleagues were waist deep in water helping to evacuate people from flooded houses and stranded cars. They were acting as ordinary caring human beings not the strong arm of the Law and still they were critised by yobs in a nearby pub who just came out with the remark ,"About time you arrived !"Little did they realise they had been attending loads of other jobs on the way. I hope these louts never need the help of the police.
To "Me" you are the type of no brain I have been talking about and I truely hope you and your sort are in dire need of police officers one day and they are ALL unable to answer your call because your stupid complaints form got them all suspended. !!! Words fail me !!

?
personally i think they do an excellent job...

those who slate them are probably the first to call them when there's a problem, or moan that they're not around when needed!!
i think they have to do a very hard job, surrounded by violence and disrespect. they put themselves in danger constantly by protecting the public from bad situations and trying to keep law and order.
no I'm not naive i know that there are those who abuse the system and break the law themselves but on the whole, to me , they are the good guys and i fully respect them and their job!!

The Police are hamstrung by a too liberal judiciary, endless bureaucracy, underfunding, lack of manpower and a failing Crown Prosecution Service so the poor Old Bill has to take the flack.

Mr. Pepys, I honestly don't know why people criticize the police.

What I do know, is that it is a big turn-off and they don't
stand a ice cube chance in hell of getting a hot date with me,
having that rude attitude!

A big hug to all the police officers!
((((((((((hug)))))))))))

This girl love ya, and appreciates what you do!

Who cares about what ugly user "ME" said.
Focus on my neckline, follow the curves and listen to what my pouting hot lips tells you to do.
"Support your community Law Enforcement!"

My partner was attacked in the street from behind with no provocation, I chased away his attacker and returned worried that if I caught him I'd be the one in trouble, the attack had been so quick I hadn't realised that the blow had been severe enough to knock my partner unconscious, he was laid out cold in the street, a night of ambulances and hopsital followed fortunately with a happy ending! His attacker had a sweatshirt with his employers name and telephone number on and someone fitting my description had been picked up earlier that evening and had had his details verified, we never got a conviction because the police were incompetant and left the matter too long to arrange an ID parade. We did get an apology from the police complaints authority. So they are not perfect! Lets not pretend they are, so some complaints are legitimate.

Being a policeman is one of the most thankless jobs we have. I have several schoolfriends and one acquaintance who are or have been policemen, Most of them have said that the two things keep them going. It is interesting and they gain most satisfaction from the number of people they are able to help in their day to day work. It is inevitable that they will be criticised unfairly, they are in a position of some authority.
Who does not from time to time anyway think the Boss is stupid and incompetent

Criminals, people who get traffic citations and non-traffic citations, citizens who are not happy that you can't get the person who made them a victim, and citizens who are not happy that you can't solve their civil problem........most cops can't solve civil problems that is why you get an attorney, and people who have a general lack of respect for themselves, society and authority have been critical of the police and it is rising. The problem also lies with police departments........one bad apple spoils the barrel. Police officers who do the wrong thing, excessive force, lying, planting evidence, added to those people listed above make it bad and difficult for those who abide by the law, and respect the law. The criminal justice system fails at times. News media and amateur videographers revelling in yellow journalism add to the unpopular stuff that hurts those who wear the uniform and do so honorably.

Bear
A lot of peoples criticisms about the police are based only on a few personal experiences. These in themselves do not make us all bad.

It may be surprising to a lot of you but the government dictate how forces are run, funded and which acts of parliament are passed. We are then forced to make the best of a bad job and take the brunt of any subsequent criticisms.

As for 'Me' - Just take a look at your thumbs down! Suggesting that officers who don't abuse their authority don't risk their lives is absolute garbage.

Iain - I make no secret for my dislike of your attitude towards the police. Please don't call us when you need us.

I am not sure, maybe it is to do with the fact that so many people are disatisfied with the law in this country itself, not the police who are sometimes just the scapegoat.

But it isn't only the police; the military, fire service, nurses, doctors, paramedics, etc. are all criticised and hassled for doing our jobs, yet just imagine life without us.

You get my thumbs up Mike H.

The countless, second/minutes/hours/time these people spent criticizing, searching the net for obscured e-news and cutting and pasting it here on Yahoo!Answer.

They could have spent it bettering and enriching their community by volunteering at nursing homes, hospitals and homeless shelters. Being a Big Brother or Big Sister, handing out MADD flyers, or donating blood to the RED CROSS. Even being a FOSTER PARENT would make a difference.

Our police officers, fighterfighters & EMS are heroes, but they need our help too. Lets give them a hand!

I don`t think people are criticising the police, they are criticising the law but the police cop out - forgive the pun - because they have to enforce it, whether they agree with it or not.

.. .this can't be good
I am a law abiding citizen - who thinks cops abuse their authority and power. The law is bent towards protecting the rights of those who mean to harm us, and then, if the police decide to accuse you of something, that same law is bent again. The SYSTEM is broken - an honest person has to prove their innocence - you can be charged with a crime and never even know it. A grand jury can indict you in the state of Georgia, and you, nor an attorney on your behalf is notified. You never get to see the evidence presented to that grand jury. You just get a notice that you are accused - and now - defend yourself. That's what is wrong. The cop gets to go in and sit before the grand jury and give his opinion, but the accused doesn't even know when or if it's happening.

It takes a certain kind of person to be a cop. They are highly needed, yet they can really put hard times on people who aren't necessarily bad people. With the swoosh of a pen they can change a life entirely. They should be more careful of how they treat the public. Quotas should not have to be me. Protect and Serve, not Protect and Harass.

Joan el guiri
There are three groups.

1. Disgruntled people.
2. People who feel that they are, or have been victims of the evil, institutionally racist and homophobic, target driven English criminal justice sytem.
3. People who really care for the loss of freedom under New (Thatcherite) Labour.

Cracks me up to hear that defense: The ones that complain are the crooks!

No, people criticize the cops because the great majority abuse authority. Those who don't are ready to retire and don't want to risk their lives or pensions. And, already have complaints in their file...

But you're right! Let's not complain about cops anymore. Let's do what is most effective: Go to the police station and get a citizen's complaint form! Turn down their attempts to change your mind. Fill it, swear it, turn it in and ask for a receipt. Make your name unforgettable for the eternities in his personnel file!
