There are a number of cops who get their jollies by harrassing teenagers. There are also cops who target people with better vehicles than they have. Most of us have had the experience of being pulled over for 5 miles over the speed limit and watching someone go by going 25 miles over the speed limit. MOST young adults detest the police because they feel they are unfair. |

There is dignity in every job including cops. |

Who thinks that? I don't. As a matter of fact I don't know anyone that thinks that.
Maybe it's the people who have had to deal with the few bad cops out there. |

Low lifes and bottom feeders tend to think that about cops. Cops tend to arrest those types so I can understand why they feel that way about them. I do not, but then my brother and father are/were on the job. |

I think that is rather a broad generalization. I don't think all people think that way. |

well stereotyping people would think of cops as fat guys who sit around and eat donuts and coffee. but those of us who are educated know better. =] |

It is my opinion that people who have been on the wrong side of the law feel this way....
I have respect for law enforcement as a whole (I am sure there are a few bad apples they are human), they have a very difficult job, don't criticize until you "walk a mile in a cops shoes".
Every time I have needed help (even once when I didn't even call), they have been there...so I will support them as I do all first responders and our Troops. |

Unfortunately, just like everything else, it only takes one bad experience to make a memorable impression. We are a society who thrive on stupidity. AND as Forest Gump said, "Stupid is as Stupid does."
Between the Media, Punks, and a few bad Cops, it takes it's toll on the ones who put their life on the line. Think of it, the only things you hear about are the bad experiences. It's rare to hear anything good. It's a shame too. This Stereo Typing is part of our society and I guess habits are hard to break. |

I don't think they are. I shudder to think what life would be without them. I hope YOU don't feel that way.
I encouraged my exhusband to be one because it was his dream. Two years later we divorced, and his becoming a cop was a huge factor, but I hold no malice about it.
I've only met one bad cop in my life and knowing what I know now, he was on a power trip, had little man syndrome, and was probably verrrry stressed out. |

Probably because cops force you to obey the laws and the people who think this probably have been caught doing something they are not supposed to do. |

Only Criminals do and who cares about them if we didn't have cops could you imagine how our streets would be I mean they re bad enough now but unchecked would be a war zone..
I do however think they put way too much time and money into patroling the highways and not enough elsewhere.like white color crime |

Most of the time it's because these people have had some kind of run in with the police. In other cases, it's some form of mental issue I think. |

The people that think that spend too much of their time breaking the law. |

While I think this is a bit of an outrageous claim of generalities, there are those officers who abuse their power, and thereby, risk the reputation of the infrastructure to which they belong. Some need to hone in on being alittle more sensitive to situations, but most of my experiences with them have been fair/and or positive. |

most of the dumn a-holes who you deal with have an i.q. of 30. those people will cuss you up one side and down the other and then praise you when you show up to help them. most trailer trash is like this. |

I believe the biggest problem that people think that they are lowlifes is because theirs not enough of the to go around. Did you know that they protect "society" now not the "Individual Person". An interesting fact, They have the same amount of Police officers in NY now as they did in the 1930's!!! |

people come in all degrees regardless of what position they hold. there are always bad apples in every walk of life. i suppose the "god" complex could get to a person but unless they are coming to your rescue noone really wants to deal with a cop --and the cop with you--and then your attorney--bottom of the tank. |

Elderado man, you're not from Elderado IL are you? I don't think that, I think bottom feeders come in all professions, there do, however tend to be more in cops and polotics than in other professions though. |

Probably because police officers aren't the dedicated people they were just 10 or 15 yrs ago. I think the reason they wanted to become police officers back then was honestly to protect and serve. Especially to thier own communitties. They felt it was thier duty as American citizens. It was a job to be proud of. People respected police officers. Unfortunately criminals got more violent. And the desire to serve your community was outweighed by your desire to live. To fill those positions the standards were lowered for who got hired. That added to parents suing the city when a police officer roughed up their juevenile who happened to be carrying a semi-automatic weapon, leaving the police looking like barbaric animals who lost control. Rather than beating the s*** out of their kid for not having the respect they should have to stop when the police tell them to stop and drop their weapon. Forget the fact their kid had a semi automatic weapon! Personally, Im not a big fan of my local police ( lapd ) and have been arrested myself. I had the pleasure of experiencing the low life type first hand. At the end of the day every profession has the low lifes though. Why would we expect law enforcement to be any different? |

Well.............Think about it. How much compassion do you think they have for their fellow man? Its really no different than most other people with law as their mask behind their anger issues. They abuse it and treat everyone with common criminal mentality even though Ive seen some real wonderful folks in the wrong place at the wrong time and become victim of this type of behavior. This does not include every cop because it's like most everything, their are some good and some not so good and then the real vicious human beings who are the epitome of rotten! I do value having a law enforcement in my community though. Thankfully my husband and I have had OK experiences with them but my husband make a cop apologies to his young son who was crying from being scared once while being pulled over for a traffic stop. The cop was less than cordial. My husband made the cop apologies to his son so he wouldn't grow up being traumatized by law enforcement. Thankfully the guy was thoughtful enough to make the apology! We just tend to get pulled over alot more because we drive Volkswagen's. We don't drive nice new cars because we choose to live simple. This has been a problem for quite some time for us. They get really upset when they cant find anything out of order like our registration and insurance. We have just become accustomed to it. The price you have to pay for being a California Hippie! |

the town i live in they are always there but not to help the one who requested the help. they stick up for the drug pushers. they pull people over that is not doing anything wrong. and the ones who speed, and harass people get away with everything. |

take our locals, our DA just got his law license pulled for corruption, another point is they can lie to you and anyone during an investigation, but will charge for a crime if you act that way, looking back thru history and you will corruption and scandals through ranks of all law enforcement. even congressman and senators have been busted. |

I dated a cop for a couple of date and was he ever a mess. At least he is off the streets and behind some desk, just messing up our legal system from the inside. Some cops are cool but the dateable ones are pathetic. |
