I have a gun but i am not harassed. I have it in a case on the back seat. Then again a lot of people have guns in Arizona. I wear mine sometimes in a holster with a belt if I feel I need access to it quickly
so my gun is not visible - that would be like asking to get shot or harassed - so how do the cops know you have a gun in the car????????????? |

You will need to define "harass".
When they first see a gun, their immediate response is to go on the defensive as a protection. They have no idea if it is legal or not, if you have a permit or not.
Simply questioning why you have a gun in your car or making the scene secure is not harassment. |

Well we all understand you feel safer, but police are good people, they picked their job for a reason, they want to help you man...I'm not saying you're against them because you didn't really indicate that but hey theres way too many people that stereotype policemen as bad evil party poopers. They're here for a reason, so best not complain about it... |

I pack a gun all the time. On those rare occasions that I do get stopped, I always tell the officer I am armed. I expect to be asked if I have a permit, I expect to be asked why I carry. The officer is looking for reassurance that you are not some nutcase. My answers are: yes, I have a permit (and offer to show it). I carry because I am trained and competent to use the gun if I have to and because I know our streets aren't that safe anymore.
You don't make flippant remarks about hunting for muggers or that you are heading down to the OK Corral. |

There is no automatic answer here. It is all dependent on what state and what municipality you live in. In my state, a car is an extension of your home. And as such, you are allowed to carry a weapon in it (concealed or otherwise). If a cop pulls me over for speeding or such, I never tell him I have a firearm present (i am not obligated under law), unless I believe I am going to do something to reveal it, which in turn could make him nervous. No one is going to find your firearm or anything else you are carrying, unless they have sufficient probable cause to search your vehicle. Your question and applicable laws strongly depend on where you live, and how you are presenting your firearm.
If you are repeatedly being harassed by different officers, you are probably presenting yourself and your firearm in a questionable manner.

The above is a NRA link to the gun laws for every state in the U.S. |

Well if you don't have a concealed carry permit or if you are transporting it in an unlawful manner then you deserve it. If that's not the case then stop getting pulled over for whatever you're doing and you won't have to worry about it anymore.
And I agree, civilians don't need guns. You are not trained to use one properly, and obviously do not understand the severity of deadly force. |

It is a matter of safety. I carry a gun in my car. The last time I got pulled over, the officer asked for my license and registration. I simply stated "Officer, my registration is in my glove compartment, and I also have a pistol in there."
It is not a concealed weapon if you disclose it immediately upon being detained.
fuxake...In America we have the right to bear arms. It is a right that most of us would NEVER give up. That being the case, those cities with the strictest gun laws in America have high crime rates. Why? Because where guns are illegal, only criminals have guns.
ahsoasho2u2...you do NOT need a concealed weapon license to carry a gun in your car. Immediate disclosure of the weapon takes care of that. You do need any other permit required by state law, but it is not "concealed" if you announce that you have it and where. I never had a concealed weapon permit until 2 years ago, and have never been given any trouble when pulled over prior. |

Well genius if you don't have a concealed weapons permit then we have every right to do our job, not harass, you. |

TO HAVE A GUN IN THE CAR IS ILLEGAL. CONCEALED WEAPON. IF YOU HAVE A PERMIT TO CARRY A CONCEALED WEAPON THEN YOU ARE OK.
MOST DRIVE BY SHOOTING TAKE PLACE WITH A CONCEALED WEAPON AND THE OCCUPANTS DO NOT OR COULD NOT IN MOST CASES OBTAIN A CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT.
IT IS NOT ILLEGAL TO HAVE A WEAPON YOU JUST HAVE TO KNOW THE LAWS AND WHAT HAS TO BE DONE TO BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THEM.
TOO MANY OFFICERS ARE SHOT WITH A PISTOL CONCEALED BY A PERSON WHO HAS NO RIGHT TO CARRY A WEAPON TO BEGIN WITH(AN EX FELON)
BECAUSE OF THEIR ACTS WITH A WEAPON, LAWS ARE MADE ABOUT WHO(M) MAY CARRY A WEAPON AND HOW THEY MAY CARRY THAT WEAPON. |
