Why do police officers "protect and serve" themselves and each other more than the public?
Find answers to your legal question.

Why do police officers "protect and serve" themselves and each other more than the public?

If they really care about justice being served why do they want to stop people from taking matters into their own hands? At least when people take matters into their own hands things get taken care of instead of ingnorantly assuming that the police are willing and able to bring justice to everyone, which they obviously can't.

Read a history book? So I'm supposed to believe everything I read, is that where you're going with that?

read ANY history book.

No you are not supposed to believe everything you read. Are you insinuating that our knowledge of history is fiction? The history of mankind gives ample reason to avoid vigilante justice.

Because it is much easier to protect and serve other uniformed officers who are armed.

It is more difficult to protect the community.

Now, let's not rag on Police officers. Just think of these poor guys and gals. They didn't know they would be putting their lives on the line when they hired on. They didn't know they were supposed to do their jobs honorably. They thought they'd be in control of all the drugs and other confiscated contraband and they'd have a babe on each arm whether there by choice or by force.

Just ask Arnold Schwarzenegger about his Nazi Secret Service Daddy.

Vigilante justice never really works well in reality.Emotions usually override what is just and proper.

They're not mandaded to protect the public. They're mandated to protect the "ruling" class. The official lie is to flatter your ego, ie: to con you into thinking YOU are part of the ruling class. The origins of the police stem from slave-catcher days...before that regular citizens did that kind of work. Also, the police are recruited from sectors of society traditionally known for revenge-motivations...ie: having an ax to grind, needing to even the score, harboring hidden grievances, needing to come up from below, etc.... All this adds up to a big problem for crime victims who don't look (or act) like they come from the "ruling" classes. Sometimes the way one has been victimized...can give rise to that image as well. All very unfair and very conducive to further victimization at the hands of the police...never mind what often happens (or doesn't happen but should) in the courts later! Good question.

Because Police are meant to survive in a depopulated world as enforcers and security guards for the elite.

See Judge Dredd
See Demolition Man
See Total Recall

The Movie Independence Day already foreshadowed the 9/11 attacks.

POLICE DEPT. are actually just there to respond immediately when they are needed,,, BUT in terms of CRIMES (dead people) - then we would blame the FBI's, CSI's the FORENSICS for doing their jobs not ACCURATLEY ,,,, (or maybe because of insufficient evidences)....

--handling matters in our own hands --we may end up with poor judging,,, and riuning our own selves because of a dead person? -- I think we gotta move on and let us instead trust them and participate... after all we are ones alive and still kickin and still around....striving for this GAME called LIFE...

In America we are a country of laws. What you describe about people taking matters into their own hands. If that were legal. The mafia or crime-rings could take matter into their own hands, just as normal people could take matters into their own hands. But neither could be condemned or protected against the other.

In essence it would be total and complete anarchy.

Thats ture. They can't reach everybody at the same time. And some are just lazy there. But I have to admit some are heroes and have saved peoples lives so they're average.

Same reason you will run into a fire that has trapped 100s, and search to find your own relatives first (whereas a police officer would help the first person they found). If they don't look out for each other among their ranks, who will be left to look out for us?

It's not up to the police to bring justice to everyone... they are the middle ranks between society and the courts... you're placing blame where it doesn't belong.

It's their egos, if you hurt it, hmmm, we don't want to go there!!
For the most part they are mean and nasty, I've never seen a single one of them speak without being overbearing and arrogant, I can't stand how they act.

They think they're hot! I really don't care for their nasty demeanor, sure some of them I'm sure do their job and protect the public, but they really judge a book by its cover and have favoritism, I've seen some just jump to conclusions and then felt stupid. I've had experiences like that, this cop was flirting and I thought it was so unprofessional, I treated him like whatever!! lol,

Don't be naive. You categorize all police officers because why? A bad personal experience?

Go ahead and be a vigilante. It won't prove anything but the fact that you would be far more sadistic than any police officer would be.

Lastly, the police don't hand out punishment. It's the judicial branch. Get the facts straight before you start blaming the police.

Mary
they don't it seems that way taking matters in your own hands never works and should never be done. leave everything to the police. most police officers do there job propery and to argue would be silly some of them just don't want to and are looking for arrest and if they arrest they get more money that how it in my state. that why we are afraid to call the police.

I'll answer your question this way: I want to kill the person who parked in my spot today and light their car on fire. No parking tickets, no tow truck. A gun and a road flare.

But I can't and am not going to do that. Why? 1, my God says not to. 2, the law says not to. 3, the person I killed might have family that might want to kill me, and I don't want to deal with that.

The reason we have police and laws is that everyone has different ideas on how to solve problems, and thus we give up the freedom to defend ourselves in the manner we see fit for the increased safety and uniformity of protection/punishment.

And police now days generally don't serve themselves, unless they are at a salad bar. To say that police protect themselves (unless you live in Chicago) is absolutely asinine. Sure, there are bad cops, but 99% of police officers are regular human beings who do their job properly. To argue otherwise is foolish and reflects a total lack of intelligence.

Dam sounds like you gotta case of the red a*s or your boyfriend
didn't lubricate this time. Police have to follow & enforce laws!!!
It is not their job to cater to your every whim or to give you a little
shake when your done peeing. Maybe after you get out of diapers and grow up you'll see they are doing all the law allows, ok it's almost recess time now
