Why do so many people try to fight speeding tickets?
Find answers to your legal question.

Why do so many people try to fight speeding tickets?

When they are 100% guilty. Like they try to fight the ticket and get off on a technicality, For example, thinking they can fight the ticket because the police officer wrote the wrong date, or time, or didn't sign the ticket.

Why are people so immature that they cannot simply take responsibility for their actions? I can understand fighting a ticket you were innocent of, but it's just assisnine to fight a ticket when you know you were guilty. I accepted responsibility and paid every ticket I ever got.

If they weren't speeding they wouldn't have gotten a ticket to begin with.

Because I have a right to.

For a criminal justice major, you sure don't know much about rights and laws.

Cops do make mistakes sometimes just like everyone else. Most of the time, however, fighting a ticket is fruitless and a waste of time and money.

I agree, but they do it because they can and they think the cop will be too busy to show up. Although it is wrong to speed, some of the fines are expensive and cost points on your record.

so you can get 50% off the actual price of the ticket.

Maybe people just think it doesn't hurt to try - people love to see how far they can go to get away with things. You're right though, the lack of acceptance of responsibility is horrifying.

Your asking why, you should be asking why not! It's people like yourself and those who agree with you that keep progress down. Why do we not have a autobahn? Why does our free country have posted speed limits while some European countries do not? Why do we have no chance or voice in a court of law against a police officer? This is a court that we are forced to pay for with our tax dollars.
Where has the American will to be free gone to? This is just another way of keeping Americans in check, a way to keep those tax dollars flowing to the government employees that do nothing for you or your way of life.

So they can get there price gone and they also think it will help them get points off there license so that they don't have to lose there license it cant though once it's in the system it's permanent

Same reason straight up cold blooded murderers get off on technicalities. They can.

speeding is illegal so shouldn't police pay for a ticket when they speed too apprehend a speeder, they still put pedestrians at risk, so they should pay too.

Its because they are usually guilty of a crime like you have said. I agree with you. Just take responsibility, own up and pay. And stop speeding. Too many pedestrians are dying in the streets because people are speeding. If you're late for work, killing someone is not going to get you to your job any sooner. Leave home earlier!

I was able to beat seven (7) California tickets in the past 2 years. All by the method of Trial By Written Declaration (TBWD). You just need to call the court, and ask to contest your ticket by TBWD. You will need to download a form TR-205 and mail out the bail (ticket payment), and explain your reason in TR-205. With TBWD, you don't have to show up at the courthouse. Make sure you mail TR-205 about 2 weeks before your ticket due date.
If you were found guilty, you still have one more chance to appeal which is called Trial de Novo (TDN).
At TDN, you have to show up in court , and if the Officer did not show up, you win. If he show up, do this:
1) Ask the Judge for his TBWD since he is to turn in his TBWD within one month.
2) Use your reasonings from TBWD, and attack/corss examine the Officer.

well i have a friend that has gotten many many tickets, speeding and tint add up to about 7 alone. anyway, he fights all of his speeding tickets, and has gotten away with most of them.

he's a very good driver, goes to the track every month, honestly i'd feel alot safer if every driver on the road was like him.

but he likes to drive really fast, and if he gets his licincse taken away he can't. so he fights the tickets. and still speeds on the open roads.

he's got an m3 and an evo. mostly a spoiled rich kid, but he's not an *** about it, and he's a safe driver.

Truthfully there are some dirty cops that use tricks to write up some tickets, like locking up their radar at a set speed or forgetting to re-caliber their radar.
However, some people try to fight the ticket just to gain time so they can pay their ticket prior to their court date. They know they're going to lose, but they don't have the money to pay their fines.
In one case, I had a person desperately trying to fight her ticket because she was on her last two points. She finally had to ask me nicely to drop her charges... of course I refused.

Well, you're the assinine one. Everyone is entitled to their day in court, guilty as sin or innocent as an angel. And if you show up at court, most traffic court judges will either reduce your fine, take away the points assessed, or throw the ticket out altogether. And there's plenty of instances where the cop won't show up and you get to go home with all charges dismissed. Everyone knows that we all speed occasionally - cops and lawyers and judges do it too. But thanks for keeping the system greased well enough that my minor traffic violations aren't needed to keep the state's coffers full b/c you keep blindly sending your fines in without an argument. I'll continue to show up at the magistrate's office and get my penalty reduced or dismissed.

YA but the ticket goes on their permanet record. Get three in your lifetime and you have to retake drivers ed. They don't want to take that chance.
